    3. Hi Norma, Vance Harris and I have been working on this family for a couple of days. Vance also brought up the name difference. There are several reasons I think the death certificate is incorrect. (1) There was an older brother - James Burton Weaver. (Birth: Apr. 9, 1869, Death: Aug. 29, 1921.) James has a dc in the Pike County Probate office (I've seen it), but I can't find one online. James is also buried at Nazarath Church cemetery (J.B. Weaver). (2) He is listed as John on census records (1900, 1910, 1920). This is his family: Descendants of James Franklin Weaver (the father) 1 James Franklin Weaver, b: 1846 in Fayette County, Georgia, d: 13 July 1931 in Pike County, Georgia ..+Martha Floyd, b: 1844 in Georgia, d: 1911 in Pike County, Georgia, m: 08 December 1867 in Pike County, Georgia ........ 2 James Burton Weaver, b: 09 April 1869 in Pike County, Georgia, d: 29 August 1921 in Pike County, Georgia ............+Mary Lizzie Smith, b: 07 September 1871 in Georgia, d: 02 May 1957 in Spalding County, Georgia, m: 24 November 1889 in Pike County, Georgia ........ 2 John Thomas Weaver, b: 23 January 1871 in Pike County, Georgia, d: 29 September 1925 in Pike County, Georgia ............+Annie Butler, b: 06 September 1878 in Pike County, Georgia, d: 02 January 1909 in Pike County, Georgia m: 24 December 1893 in Pike County, Georgia ........*2nd Wife of John Thomas Weaver: ............+Susan Elizabeth Harris b: 18 April 1878 in Pike County, Georgia d: 16 September 1946 in Spalding County, Georgia, m: 12 December 1909 in Pike County, Georgia ........ 2 Walter W. The deceased was raised by a pious mother and in early life embraced proper conceptions of morality and the fear of God. The writer has known Ola all her life and can truthfully say that she was a dutiful child and had a great reverence for parents, Religion and God, and was seldom found in the company of the vain and sinful. Being afflicted for a long while she had ample time to make preparation to meet her Savior in peace. She is doubtless today in the Paradise of God where there is no more dropsical effusion or sleepless nights. So may it be is the sentiment of her friend. - J.A.W. 3. FYI Rachel is a young reporter for the Pike County Journal. There will be a book signing at our local bookstore on June 10th from 4:30 - 6:30. I'm sure this book will be available at all bookstores. Images of America: PIKE COUNTY [Georgia] by Rachel McDaniel Paperback, 200 vintage photographs/128 pages Rachel has put together a fascinating compilation of 200 historic images from the archives and scrapbooks of Pike County. This volume is the newest in the celebrated Arcadia series that presents the history of towns and cities across the United States. Rachel's fine captions for each image--from early agricultural photos to the hanging of Zebulon's first traffic lights in 1990 (well, Pike County's only traffic lights to this day...) make this an excellent and fascinating look at our county.

Wiley Kendall, an aged colored man, who was well thought of by both white and colored, was plowing a mule and suddenly dropped dead in the furrow. Perhaps it was apoplexy. The second was a most horrible one and makes the whole being quiver to think of it. David Trice, a colored man living just out of the corporate limits of town on the road to Howard’s mill, had a grown daughter who was subject to having spasms. In the absence of her parents Thursday, a boy was left to look after her. Just before she was found dead the boy saw her sitting before the fire with a bed quilt around her. It is probable that the quilt caught fire and she burned to death. When the boy came in to see about her she had gotten back to the rear of the house and all her clothes had burned off, except the dress binding about her neck and the belt of the dress at her waist. Life had departed and the bed was just blazing up and would soon put the house where it would have been burned, but it was saved. J.W.B. Reid has filed a suit for divorce against his wife Mattie M. Reid, nee Mattie M. Pound. They were married on the 3d of November 1880 in Pike county, but now live in Fulton. They separated in the 16th of February and the extraordinary part of the proceeding is that the husband alleges cruel treatment on the part of the wife. This is quite a reversal of the usual order of things. The husband says his wife treated him in a way that was intolerably cruel, cursing and abusing him and striking and beating him with anything that happened to be handy. The pair have two children, Willie aged three and Elmo aged a year and a half. Additional Comments: John Wesley B. Reid, Jr. was born in Pike County, Georgia. Only close friends of the bride and groom and the immediate family of the groom were in attendance. Miss Milner, who formerly lived at Barnesville is known as a young lady of great charm and highly accomplished. She has resided in Atlanta for some time. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Dor2Tyme Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.pike/1527/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for Harris and Turner lines in the Bibb, Spalding, Pike and Lamar and surrounding county areas. Thomas Cain (sometimes spelled Kane/Cane) Turner born august 1860 and Sarah Harris born august 1864 (both birthdates from 1900 census) Sarah was the daughter of W.M. Harris and Roberta? Her age in census records varies as much as 5 years from year to year. Sarah's parents names come from her death certificate which might not be correct as we all know. Sarah possibly had a sister Ida May. They had sons: 1. Bonnie/Barney/Barnie R. Turner - born 20 May 1884/1885, died 21 Mar 1920 in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida - Wife Idella/Inez, no known children 2. Virgil Owens Turner - born 07 Dec 1889, died, 27 Mar 1934 Lakeland, Polk County, Florida . No marriage record found 3. James Perry Turner Sr., born 27 May 1893, died Sept 11, 1944 in V. A. hospital, Pinellas County, Florida but was living in Lachoochee, Pasco County, Florida With wife Minnie Vesta Ward Turner. Perry and Vesta's children were George Daniel, James Perry, James Clay, Bonita Ethlynd all born in Florida. 4. Charles A Turner - born July 1987 - I have been able to find no other information on Charlie other than the census up to 1920 and his military enlistment. On Thomas and Sarah's son's military enlistment papers they all say they were born in Griffin, Ga. or Macon, Ga. The earliest I can find them in the census is in Florida in 1900 in Pasco County Florida. That is where I get the birthdates and places for Thomas and Sarah. >From one census to the next Sarah's names changes from Roberta, Sarah to Martha although she is always listed as the mother of the children. According to the census and city directory records Thomas C Turner died between 1900 and 1910 as Sarah is listed as a widow in the 1910 census and in the 1913 city directory for Lakeland, Florida. She could of course been a grass widow but I find nothing to suggest that. I would love to find any information at all on these people, marriage records, parents, earlier than 1900 census records....anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
