Mr. McCarty is not in my direct line, however, I have not been able to find where Armonia and Samuel are buried.....Armonia reportedly died in 1910....Samuel died much later in Union County.....BUT we have searched the cemetery records and can't find either one of them in Union County, Arkansas...We take pictures of our family tombstones to add to our family tree.....That was my dilemna....... 1. [GAPIKE] Georgia State Archives - Important
    2. Lynn Cunningham
    3. The 2011 session of the Georgia General Assembly saw the budget of the Georgia Archives slashed, yet again. The situation has become so dire that the Archives is open to the public only two days per week. This once proud and nationally respected institution is but a shadow of its former self. Staff positions have been eliminated, and programs abolished or much diminished. Of all state archives, the Georgia Archives has the dubious distinction of being open to the public the fewest number of hours per week. It is time for a change. It is time that our elected officials be made aware that we, the citizenry, are outraged that our access to historical records is limited to seventeen hours per week (Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Action is needed now. Do not wait until the 2012 session, or it may be too late. I urge you to contact officials. Your expression of support will boost Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s efforts to restore the Archives to the importance it once held. Send a letter of support to: Secretary of State Brian Kemp, 214 State Capitol, Atlanta, GA 30334. Kemp also urges citizens to support the Archives, and he has some specific suggestions on how to go about it. “What have to do is to make the legislature understand why the facility and the mission are important,” he said. “We have to continue to educate. We haven’t done a good job of that in the past.” He said supporters should write personal letters emphasizing the Archives’ critical mission and its potential to generate revenue and foster economic development. “Don’t just write to governor or appropriations committee members, write to local legislators,” he advised. “If people have an Appropriations Committee member from their district, all the better. Personal letters from people in their district get read. Personalize it. Say you’re with this organization and they (members) are concerned about this.” Write Georgia legislators, as well as Gov. Nathan Deal, to request that the Archives budget be restored and public access hours expanded. You can find the name and contact information for state representatives and senators at: http://www.legis.ga.gov. You may send a letter to: Gov. Nathan Deal, State Capitol, Atlanta, GA 30334. Let’s flood them with notes and letters! This is important. We need to get our state Archives back to a functional level!

    3. Mary Agnes Baker McIntosh was born in Florida. She came to live in Molena with her daughter, Christine, and her daughter's husband, Julian C. Wilkes. Julian C. Wilkes worked in the bank in Molena. Before 1930 the Wilkes family moved to California. Their son John Henry Wilkes is buried in the Molena cemetery. He died when he was about four years old just a few months before his grandmother Mary Agnes McIntosh died. Mary Agnes' son Daniel A. McIntosh is also buried in Molena - he died in North Carolina. Her husband, Judge Daniel Anderson McIntosh, died in Dodge County in 1905 and is buried there. --- On Sat, 11/19/11, GAGenWeb Archives <archives@poppet.org> wrote: From: GAGenWeb Archives <archives@poppet.org> Subject: [GAPIKE] Ga-Pike Co. McIntosh, was buried at Molena, Ga., November 24 after a long illness.  She was a woman who, despite her years, was keenly interested in the church and club work.  She was a remarkably brilliant woman, her poems being gems of beauty.  She composed the county song for the Pike County Federation.  Her patrician face will be missed at the club gatherings which she so enjoyed.  Only a few weeks before she died she composed the following poem: In my Father’s house are many mansions. And faces with the freshness of youth. With no sneers to deride, no scorning or pride, And the treasure of friendship and truth. Mercy will follow me all of my days; I will dwell in His mansions so fair; I will rest in green pastures, and walk in the ways Which He has prepared for me there. There is a home in the valley of peace, Away from all anger and strife, Where songs are not hushed, nor hearts ever crushed, Beside the still waters of life. There is a home that is close to Him, And I know that all sorrow and pain His love will allay, His hand smooth away, And clouds will be sunlit again. Mrs. McIntosh is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Julian C. Wilkes, president of Pike County Federation of Women’s Clubs; seven grandchildren, one brother, R.M. Baker, of Decatur, a sister, Mrs. L.V. Mrs. Alonzo Richardson, director for Georgia in the general federation, saw Mrs. McIntosh in Molena, Ga., several days before her death and she told her that “she was glad to have lived to see the Georgia club women come to the front and take their rightful and influential place in the life of today.” Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: I'm not related to or researching the McIntosh family. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. H.E. Armstrong, of Barnesville, cousin of the groom, sang “Because”. Rev. Virgil F. Agan, of LaGrange, performed the ceremony. The wedding march was played by Mrs. R.P. Barnett, sister of the groom. Little Evangeline Carter, dressed in blue crepe de chine with lace and ostrich trimmings, and Jeanette Armstrong, wearing pink georgette trimmed in ruffles and hand embroidered, both carrying bouquets of roses and baskets of rose petals, were flower girls. Master Will Tom Kendrick, dressed in white, bore the ring on a satin pillow showered with lilies of the valley. The groom entered with W.H. Norris, brother of the bride, as his best man. The bride entered with her sister, the matron of honor, Mrs. R.L. Carter, of Thomaston, and took her place by the groom under the large wedding bell in center of the room before a beautiful improvised altar of stately palms, ferns and smilax, intermingled with baskets of white and pink chrysanthemums. At either side of the altar were tall pedestals on which were silver candelabras holding pink and white candles. The decorations were supervised by Mr. Wylie W. Mitchell, of Zebulon. The bride was exquisitely lovely in her snow-white wedding gown with trimmings of lace and pearls. Her veil of tulle and satin ribbon was held in place by a bandeau showered with valley lilies. She carried a shower bouquet of bride’s roses and lilies of the valley. The matron of honor was gowned in apricot satin with iridescent beaded bands and rich marabou trimmings, carrying a lovely arm bouquet of pink roses and fern. Mrs. R.P. Barnett played appropriate music during the ceremony. Mrs. J.W. Kendrick, of Roberta, sister of the bride, received the guests gowned in shutter green satin, while a younger sister, Miss Mary Ernest Norris, presided over the bride’s book. Punch was served by Misses Florein, Igene, Mary and Ruth Carter. Mrs. Owen is the accomplished young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Norris. Mr. Owen is a successful farmer and oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Owens. They left for a trip to points in Florida. Mrs. Owen traveled in a gown of midnight blue charmeen and becoming hat of gold cloth, with accessories to match. After about ten days Mr. and Mrs. Owen will be at home to their friends at Owen Heights. Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: I'm not related to or researching the Norris and Owen families.
