Notes for HARRY HUCKABY: The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike Co., Friday, May 25, 1894 (Transcribed 9/24/02 Lynn Cunningham) In Memoriam Harry Huckaby whose death occurred just a short time ago, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Huckaby of Hollonville, Ga. Harry was just a few days past his eleventh year when he died. He was sick thirty days and suffered intensely to the very last. Harry was a good boy and manifested a Christian spirit through all his sickness. He was a dutiful son, and a loving brother. He was passionately fond of his mother. He was always ready to respond to her calls. He anticipated her wants and met them with a cheerful spirit. When his mother had to stay at home, he would volunteer to stay with her and let the rest go. He was a mother's boy. There was that sweetness and tenderness in his nature that made him lovable. He was rational to the last, and in all his sickness, humility and love stood to the front. When death came, he just folded his hands and went to sleep. Harry will be missed, and none will miss him more than his mother. Harry's chair will be vacant, but the good father has given him a seat in one of the bright mansions above. - A Friend iv. M. Elliott, on Brown Avenue. She was in her eighty-sixth year, an age to which very few people are permitted to live. The funeral service was held at the home on Brown Avenue Tuesday, and was conducted by Rev. R. M. Dixon, her pastor, after which the body was taken to Fredonia church for burial. Mrs. Elliott was a noble christian woman and for many years had been a faithful and devoted member of the Methodist church. She was universally loved among the people who knew her. Truly a good woman has entered into that rest promised to the people of God. Mrs. Elliott is survived by one son, Mr. M. M. Elliott, and other relatives to whom the sympathy of the people of the community is extended in their present sorrow. Additional Comments: Jane Means Elliott was the daughter of James Means and Mary Ann (McKenzie) Means. She married Stephen Elliott. 3. Hello, I'm trying to find out information on some of my group of McLeod's. Can anyone tell me, what the maiden name of Alexander McLeod's Jr.'s wife was? I have seen several names tossed around, and now a new one has come up. I have that her name was Bardin, I have also seen Parkins. Now, someone else, has it as Jordan. Does anyone have any info on a William Enoch Jordan in Pike Co. Ga., and also a James Jordan? It seems that these Jordan's, including my Lovick Pierce Jordan, were living close to my McLeod's. I descend from Alexander McLeod Sr., and his wife Margaret through their daughter Nancy, who married Owen N.K.. or O.H.R. Carden. I'm wondering, if these Jordan's connect with my Lovick P. I do know that their was a Jordan McLeod, and I believe he was the Grandfather of Doris Greer. I know this maybe off topic, but has anyone heard from Doris lately? I've tried to email her a couple of times, but have gotten no response. If anyone has any info on any of these mentioned above, please get in touch with me. Thank you, Becky Carden
