    3. From the minutes of Mt. Olive Baptist Church 1929 In Memoriam of Mrs. Susan Frances Story Reeves Born August 26, 1838 Died May 12, 1929 United with Mt. Olive Church in 1857 Baptized by Rev. James McCloud Clerk P.H. McDowell "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid for me a crown of righteousness." Descendants of Susan Frances Story Generation No. 1 1. SUSAN FRANCES3 STORY (WILEY J.2, WILLIAM1) was born 26 August 1838 in Pike County, Georgia, and died 12 May 1929 in Pike County, Georgia. She married (1) JOHN PHILLIP GRAHAM 1859 in Pike County, Georgia, son of REV. BILLY GRAHAM. He died Abt. 1863 in Rock Island, Illinois (Civil War). She married (2) HUGH H. REEVES 1865 in Pike County, Georgia. He was born Abt. 1838 in Georgia, and died 03 April 1904 in Pike County, Georgia. Notes for SUSAN FRANCES STORY: Pike County Journal. Friday, April 27, 1928 (Dawn Hill) Our Older Citizens Mrs. Susan Reeves Mrs. Susan Reeves was born in Pike county near Union school house on August 26, 1838 and now lives with her daughter, Mrs. Murray McCard, within about two miles of her birth place. She has never lived more that three miles from where she was born. She is the daughter of Wiley and Rebecca (Beckham) Storey. He father was born in Jasper county and her mother in Washington county. Both parents were Methodists, her grandfather Storey being a Methodist preacher. There was once a Methodist church where Union colored school now stands and her parents were members of this church. The church, however, was done away with many years ago and Mrs. Reeves joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in 1867 and was baptized by Rev. James McCloud. Henry McDowell was church clerk at that time. Mrs. Reeves has been a faithful member since that time and is still able to attend church services. She first married Philip Graham, son of Rev. Billy Graham of Milner. He joined the Confederate army on June 22, 1862. He was captured and died in prison at Rock Island. While sick at Lynchburg, Va., he was visited by Mrs. Reeves. She got a pass in Zebulon from Dr. Redding who was Ordinary of the county. She went through Atlanta and says it was just a small town. In later years she was married to Hugh Reeves who also served as a volunteer from the beginning until the close of the war. He died April 3, 1904 at the age of 68 years. This union was blessed with eight children, six of whom are still living:- Mrs. R.G. Elliott, Mrs. Murray McCard, G.A. Reeves of Molena, Mrs. R.S. Eppinger of Concord, J.C. Reeves of Griffin and Mrs. J.E. Beckham of Long Branch, Texas. She has 24 grandchildren. Mrs. Reeves has several souvenirs handed down from her mother which she prizes very highly, among them being a willow basket made by the Indians. It is quite interesting to hear her talk of old times and how different things are now from what they were when she was a girl. She attributes her health and long life to the fact she looks on the bright side of life and takes a good hearty laugh several times a day. It will do anyone good to visit her and hear her talk. The Monroe Advertiser July 4, 1929 (Transcribed 06/24/03 Lynn Cunningham) Find Letters Written by Confederate Soldier to "The Girl He Left Behind" Faded old letters, describing the horrors and tragedies of the war between the states, written by John P. Graham to his young bride, Susan Frances Storey Graham, when he was fighting with the Confederate soldiers in 1863, were recently found by Mrs. M.W. McCard, of Molena, among her late mother's possessions. The letters, yellowed with age, told of the hardships, fears and loneliness of the war - which later claimed his life. Graham was only 19 when he left his young bride of a few weeks to fight for the Southland, and was just 20 years old when he died of typhoid fever in a Yankee hospital. Mrs. Graham later married Hugh Reeves, who was also a soldier in the Confederate Army, and it was from this union that she is survived by five daughters and two sons. Mrs. Reeves recently died at the age of 90 years, and it was while going through her personal possessions that the letters written almost 70 years ago from her first husband, who gave his life for the lost cause, were found. - Pike County Journal. 3. My name is Jennifer Bell and I am researching my grandfather's family in Pike County. His father, Oliver Watson Buchanan, born Feb 28, 1900, married to Estelle Bankston. I have not begun research on her side yet, but would appreciate any information. Oliver Watson's parents were Guy Buchanan (born june 10, 1878) and Minnie Toland Dec 23, 1883). Their ancestors include: John Robert Buchanan (June 1, 1848) and Emily Frances Shivers (Dec. 9, 1850) Redmond A. Tolen (March 12, 1853) and Nancy Tempelene Johnson (ca. 1845) James Buchanan (March 12, 1827) and Martha Ann Smith (ca. 1829) Henry Tolen and Martha Allen Thomas Johnson and Nancy (unknown) Wilson Shivers, Jr. (Feb 1821) and Elizabeth Moore (Dec. 26, 1826) lynncunningham <[email protected]> wrote: We have not had a roll call for a while and we have some new list members. 3. Linda, My name is Becky Carden. I see the Virginia Ellen Williamson mentioned. I believe this is Doris Greer's line. Have you been in touch with her? I connect with the McLeod's. I descend from Alexander McLeod, who was married to a Margaret, maybe McSwain. We have he was born in 1770 in Scotland, migrated to N.C., and finally ended up Pike Co. Ga., where he died about 1854. I then descend from his daughter Nancy, born abt. 1826. She was married to my GGGrandfather, O.H.R. or Owen N.K. Carden, born about 1820 in Ga. They were in married in Pike Co. Ga. in 1843. They eventually migrated to Al. sometime after 1854, and before 1860, and were in Tallapoosa Co. Owen died during the Civil War, and Nancy, eventually ended up in Chambers Co. Al. I'm still searching for the elusive parents of my O.H.R. As I've stated before, everyone feels he connects somehow, to a John Carden, or maybe David Carden, somehow. This group were also in Pike Co. Ga. I also have Lovick Pierce Jordan, born 1807 in S.C., and was in Pike Co. Ga. in 1850. Then, I also have Woodall's, and Verdin's, and Malone's, that were in Pike Co. Ga. Any and all help would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you, Becky Carden ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Baker" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 25, 2006 4:57 PM Subject: Re: [GAPIKE] Roll Call - Pike County > WILLIAMSON - Pike County (Molena, Gwinette, Neal) > > Joseph Williamson, Jr. (my gggrandfather) > b.
