Author: lanette42 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gann/569.5.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you are interested in Thomas Gann and Catherine Hicks, you should see William R Gann and Gary Toms book on Nathan Ignatious Gann. They have done extensive research on this line. There is also an article in one of the older Gann Gazettes written by Laura and Ray Perkins. At this point, no connection has been made between the second husband of Elizabeth and the various Gann lines. I found where a descendent of Henry did a DNA test that matched a Farrow line on FamilyTree DNA. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Joyce_Reece Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gann/569.5/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Lorri, I tried for a long time to prove this theory and completely failed. I live near where Henry lived so have access to the county records for him. 1. There is an old post here that says that Henry's line is Cherokee. I've not been able to prove that but here is what I have found. In Monroe County there lived a man named Andrew Miller. in 1817 he applied for and received a 640 acre land reservation according to the 1817 - 1819 treaties. The reason this white man got the land was because he was married to Caty McCoy. By the mid 1820's Andrew had died and left the land to Caty and children. This is probated both in McMinn and Monroe Countys. (Caty was the dtr of Daniel McCoy and a Cherokee woman). Shortly after Andrew died Caty established a relationship with Thomas Gann. It was this Thomas and Caty who moved onto the Vann plantation in nearby Murray County, GA. Thomas was acting as storekeeper for the Vann's. Taking the place of James C. Martin the son of Betsy Ward and Joseph Martin. I have not been able to establish a firm connection between Thomas Gann and Henry Farrow/Gann. I believe his mother to b Elizabeth Adams, sister of James Adams...James being the father of Amy Adams, Henry's wife. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. ALSO, if anyone can find a connection between James Adams, father of Amy and Mary, and Elizabeth Adams it would help a lot in proving this line. James is originally from Oconee Co, Greenville, SC. Thomas Farrow is found on the 1790 census in Old Ninety Six District. Has two mentions in deeds in Washington Dist/County, TN around the time of and just after TN statehood. There are a few other families from the same area living near James in Monroe Co., TN....the Clayton's, William's, Milsap's, Raper's, Joyce Gaston Reece -------------------------------------------------- From: "Joyce Gaston Reece" <bjreece@bellsouth.net> Sent: Friday, October 28, 2011 3:33 PM To: <Gann@rootsweb.com> Subject: [GANN] Alexander Farrer/Gann > Seeking descendents of Alexander Farrow / Gann for DNA purposes. He is found as Farrow in 1830 and Gann in 1840 and residing, on both census' next to James Adams, father of Mary Adams, wife and Alexander and Amy Adams, wife of Henry. 3. Hello Joyce   My family goes back too Henry Gann(Fairer).  The Pulaski County census of 1860 and 1870 also has my line.  Both John Gann and Samuel Gann (my line) are listed as well. I have not been able to trace any further back than Henry/ Alexander.  Pehaps some day someone will find something to clear up the confusion. Have a nice day.   Richard Gann Lynn65801@yahoo.com --- On Wed, 6/23/10, Joyce Gaston Reece <bjreece@bellsouth.net> wrote: From: Joyce Gaston Reece <bjreece@bellsouth.net> Subject: [GANN] John To: gann@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 6:40 AM In 2008 Donna Gann-Caballero posted a message concerning the situation of Henry & Alexander Fairer / Gann.  In this message she states that  "Amy's sister Sara married John Gann in Monroe Co., Tennessee and she and John moved to Pulaski Co. She does not say but is it safe to assume that the John she is referring to is the son of Alexander?  If this is true doesn't it bring to light questions about Alexander's wife who is also said to be an Adams and sister to Amy? 3. My Gann connection is also a brick wall. Nancy Gann Gentry a widow with two daughters, Julie and Catherine married William Wiley Shook and lived in Tishomingo Co Mississippi. He father is listed on her death certificate as Doc but oral history in the family says he was John and died as a result of wounds in the civil war. Can anyone tie my brick wall to anything they have. -----Original Message----- From: gann-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gann-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bonnie Thomas Chaffin Sent: Wednesday, January 20, 2010 7:30 PM To: gann@rootsweb.com Subject: [GANN] Jefferson Co TN I saw the post on Henry Gann of Jefferson Co & decided to pass along my Gann info.
