    1. LISTOWNER POST - PLEASE READ!!!!
    2. Carol C-H
    3. Cousins, If you are on more than one of my lists, you will get more than one copy of this post - just delete the duplicates. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS ONE!! **************************************************************************** ********** First, I would like to strongly encourage you to become a member ($12/yr) or sponsor($24/yr) of RootsWeb, if you have not already done so. Rootsweb is a membership organization - your membership dues and contributions are what keeps it going. The address is RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative, P.O. Box 6798, Frazier Park, CA 93222-6798 and the URL for more info is http://www.rootsweb.com/ **************************************************************************** ********** There will be genealogy classes on the 'net - I am not familiar with them, but plan to be soon - I'm enrolling! The URLS and the mirror sites for these classes are: http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen110.htm (Beginning Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen201.htm (England Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen206.htm (African American Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen208.htm (Ireland Genealogy Class) MIRROR SITES: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen110.htm (Beginning) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen201.htm (England) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen206.htm (African American) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen208.htm (Ireland) **************************************************************************** ********** Many of you have asked about accessing the archived (old) posts. I will go through the steps of how to do this, using the Bozeman list as an example - you would substitute the name of the list you are wanting archived posts from. Realize that some lists, such as the ones I manage, are set so that only listmembers can retrieve archives for that list. 1) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with archive in the subject line and LS volume97 as the message. 2) you will get back a list that has several columns of numbers like this: -rw-rw---- 1 slist slist 10968 Jun 14 13:50 11 The only ones you need are the date - Jun 14 - and the last number, which in this case is 11. That means that the archive for June 14 for the Bozeman list is #11. 3) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with archive in the subject line and get volume97/11 as the message. **************************************************************************** ********** Those of you on Larry Stephens' regional lists at indiana.edu (our former list home with Maiser) will recognize the rest of this post - I have his permission to use it. GOOD SUBJECT LINES really help - those who read a lot of mail as well as you (because more people will read your mail). If you're responding to a message and the subject has changed, then change it on the message. ================== IF YOU NEED HELP AND I DON'T ANSWER, I - 1) didn't get the message; 2) answered and you didn't get the message; 3) haven't read it yet; 4) did something really stupid and accidentally deleted it. Please be patient and try again after 24 hours. 1. GaNewton MOSS
    2. R W MOSS
    3. Hi... I'm looking for any data on John MOSS whose will was probated in GaNewton on March 07, 1827. This LWT names his wife Alender (Sarah Ellender HALL MOSS, his sons Burl (my g-grandfather), John, Thomas, and Whitman. Also mentioned are siblings of John MOSS, James MOSS, Archy MOSS, William MOSS, Willis MOSS (dec'd), and Fanny BROWN MOSS. The executors of this LWT were Wilson WHATLEY and Christopher S CARTER. The LWT was witnessed by John STOCKS, Barnet MITCHAM, and David HARRIS. Also, John MOSS's widow (Sarah Ellender HALL MOSS) remarried -also in GaNewton- to Hendrick MITCHAM, possibly related to the above named Barnet MITCHAM. Sarah and Hendrick had several children, still in GaNewton... I'd appreciate any data on ANY of these people... Thank you, Randy ___________________________________________ R W Moss 501 543-6086 day 1728 Harmony Church Road 501 536-8552 nite Pine Bluff, Ar Moss44@seark.net

    1. My lost Newton county ancestors
    2. Carol
    3. Hi, cousins!! Please spread the word about our new list - the more of us there are on it, the better will be our chances of finding our ancestors. I hope you will soon send your post about your missing ancestors to the list so we can all help each other!! This is my brick wall in Newton county: Benjamin KING was born 1802 in NC and taken to TN "as a young child". He and Elinor S. WOOD, born 1805 in SC or North GA, married in 1823 in Newton county, GA and went to Forsyth, "a bride and groom". Folks back then didn't marry strangers. Usually the families had known each other a while. NOWHERE does my primary resource for what I know of this line - the Spencer B. KING book - say how long Benjamin KING's family was in TN. I have had it in my mind they were there until 1823, but of course they would not have been - how would Benjamin and Elinor have met, and why would they have married in GA if they lived in TN? And they married in Newton county, rather than Walton, where Elinor's brother, Cary (b. 1795), married a week later - apparently his bride was from there. That tells me that Elinor and Cary's parents were in Newton county, which was created in 1821 from Henry, Jasper and Walton. My guess is that Benjamin's family was also been in the area for a while - maybe a long while. Can anyone shed any light on either this WOOD family or the KING family? PLEASE??? Thanks!!!
