    3. Are there any cemetery records in Newton Co., GA prior to 1860 available? Tax Records on microfilm for viewing to find any info on a John Middlebrooks b. 1755 VA/NC who res. in Caswell Co., NC from 1770's to about 1800? John Middlebrooks supposed son of a John Middlebrooks b. 1726 VA (?) may have moved to SC prior to his residing in Newton Co., GA. He married 1) Mary Lyon dau. of Robert Lyon of Caswell Co., NC who died in 1784 (his Will) and evidently Mary died after birth of about three sons then John married 2) Milly Sutton (need place of marriage and her lineage)......The main source of info used for this line is from the Middlebrooks Register of 1909 by L.F. Middlebrooks of CT....but the book has incorrect dates, names . If anyone is working on this family please contact me TXJEAN@aol.com

    1. [GANEWTON-L] IMPORTANT - LISTOWNER MESSAGE
    2. Carol C-H
    3. Cousins, listmembers, Just in case a RootsWeb listowner ever asks you for money - PLEASE REMEMBER - the RootsWeb lists are TOTALLY FREE. As I have told you, the computers and such which make these lists possible are partly paid for by RootsWeb memberships and sponsorships and contributions from all of us who want to voluntarily do so. Karen and Brian also spent thousands of dollars of their OWN PERSONAL money last year so we could have all the good things from RootsWeb, and I truly hope that anyone who can afford to do so will join in and help - but that needs to be sent DIRECTLY TO ROOTSWEB!!!!! Those of us who choose to be listowners do it TOTALLY as VOLUNTEERS, and the vast majority of us are also sponsors of RootsWeb. The RootsWeb URL is http://www.rootsweb.com/ Also - if you WANT to send your snailmail address and telephone number to a listowner as an alternate means for folks to contact you, that is your choice. I suggest that if any listowner ever REQUIRES that you send it, you UNSUB from that list immediately. I hope all of you are enjoying whichever holiday you celebrate. Please remember that if you need to contact me in connection with anything having to do with any of the lists I manage, use my name - CAROL - as the subject line, so that I will see your post immediately rather than it getting lost amongst the hundreds that hit my mailbox each day. Also, please be sure to mention the name of the list you are posting about somewhere in your message. Thanks!! Carol Carwile Head <cch@netdoor.com> http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch Proud sponsor of RootsWeb <http://www.rootsweb.com/> and "listowner" for the GEN-MAT lists (buy/sell new/used genealogical materials), GEN-BOOKS (buy/sell new and used Genealogy Books), NEWBIE-LISTOWNER (support/Q&A for new rootsweb listowners and their mentors), SLAVEINFO (post slave information found in wills, deeds, etc), IMMI-GRAND (immigrant grandparents research), SPAIN (researching ancestors in Spain), RAN-CLAY (east-central Alabama counties), ALBLOUNT (Blount county, AL area), GANEWTON (Newton County, GA area), and Agnew, Bailey, Barker, Bell, Bowen, Bozeman, Cannon, Carwile, Cloud, Creel, Crowder, Couts, DeVaughn, Ferguson, Gannon, Garrett, Griff, Grogan, Head, Jordan, Knotts, Lipscomb, Lynch, Page, Poole, Pursley, Roland and Thompson surname lists.

    2. Carol C-H
    3. Cousins, There has been a slight delay in getting our searchable list archives onto the web, but progress is being made. Posts will begin to be archived very soon - before the first of the year - probably within the next couple of weeks. As soon as I know when the archives will be on the web - and the URL - I will let you know. Once again, the wonderful pair of volunteers who created and "power" RootsWeb have given their time and energy (and money) to help us. Thank you, Karen Isaacson and Dr. Brian Leverich!!! And thank you, also, Marc Nozell (who contributed greatly to this project)! 3. Cousins, Our list archives - including those from when our list was at Maiser - will soon be more accessible to us and will have facilities for searching, similar to (but I understand better than) the ones that we use for the Roots-L posts! If you have not checked the Roots-L archives, please do so - it is a valuable resource - the URLs are http://searches.rootsweb.com/roots-l.search.html and http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/index/ I will let you know more as soon as I do about how to reach them. Target date for the archives to be online is December 1, as best I can tell; updates will be sent as I receive them. Please remember not to send attachments to the list. If you have data in an attachment, post to the list that you have it, and let cousins request it privately. Remember, please - if you need my help for anything, use the subject line CAROL so that your post will filter correctly and not get lost in my "regular" inbox with all the junk mail I receive. Carol

    1. LISTOWNER POST - PLEASE READ
    2. Carol C-H
    3. Cousins, Hope all of you are having a successful search!! As always, if you get multiple copies of this post, that means you are on more than one of the lists I manage - the posts are identical, so delete all but this one. PLEASE READ this one!! If you have genealogy/local history books you no longer need and would like to sell, if you are a part of a local historical society that has materials for sale, or if you are looking for some new materials, you might enjoy one of the Gen-Mat lists at this server. To join, send SUBSCRIBE in the message part of a post to GEN-MAT-L-request@rootsweb.com or to GEN-MAT-15-L-request@rootsweb.com (the list for materials/services priced $15 or under). If, while you are researching your ancestors, you encounter plantation information - slave data - in wills, deeds, or other documents, please send it to SLAVEINFO-L@rootsweb.com so that African-American cousins who are seeking their ancestors might have a better chance of success. If you have a copyrighted book with such info and are willing to do lookups, please post that fact to the list, also. Some of you sent data a few months ago when I was planning to have a website for that purpose, but this will be even better, I think, since the archives of that list can be accessed by those who want the information. Any of you who might also want to join that list can do so by sending SUBSCRIBE in the message part of a post to SLAVEINFO-L-request@rootsweb.com The genealogy lists are only going to work for us if we POST, POST, POST........... Send ALL the information you know about the ancestor you are trying to find when you post a query. Use a very clear subject line so that a cousin will not delete your post without reading it because she thinks it does not relate to her. If you find data that you think others on the list might want to see, post it - maybe someone will do the same for you about your ancestor! If you have a resource and are willing to do lookups for the cousins on your list, post that fact to the list. Maybe a cousin on the list will do lookups in a book that mentions your ancestor. If you think of a good way for those of us on a list to work together on a project, suggest it to the list, volunteer to help with it - if we all use our talents and our effort to work together, we will find more ancestors. I see this happening on a couple of small lists and on one large list, and much progress is being made on all three! These are OUR lists for finding OUR ancestors, and they will only be as productive as we make them. REMINDER - If you have not sent your snailmail address to me (privately, of course), please do so in case you go offline and a cousin wants to contact you about your ancestor. Use the subject line SNAILMAIL. Also - if you need to contact me about anything having to do with the list you are on, please use my name - CAROL - as the subject line, so that I will read it as soon as I download it. Be sure to mention the name of the list you are on in your post. If I do not respond within 24 hours, resend it, because that would mean it was lost in cyberspace, my reply to it was lost in cyberspace, or some such. Let's find some ancestors!! Carol
