    3. Over the river and thru the wood, To grandfather's house we go; The horse knows the way To carry the sleigh, Thru the white and drifted snow, oh! Wait this is Muscogee County we don’t have drifted snow. Anyway, so what if Muscogee County didn’t have any snow, they had something you are interested in and let’s share it during this holiday season. So let’s go over the river and thru the wood, To ____________________ house we go (Muscogee County, please) The horse knows the way To carry the sleigh Thru the white and drifted snow, oh (when and why are you visiting this person?) The first person I would visit is Mary Ellen (ABNEY) NEWSOME b. Jan 27,1837 AL, died Sep 19, 1863. She’s buried at the CLAPP Factory Cemetery. I’d like to talk to her about her about her life at CLAPP Factory and her ABNEY cousins. Her ABNEY and my MAYS lines (which I know little of) crossed in SC. My mother and her sister’s thought they were the first in their family to move to Muscogee County. Then earlier this year I found another link. Then if I could come back at a different time I’d travel 5 miles east of Columbus (descriptions appropriate for the time) to visit my husbands family, John C. MASSEY (b 1838 d 1898) and his wife Sara Virginia GODWIN (b 1842 m 08/02/1866 d 1911). Both were buried at Massey Cemetery (on Malone Range #22) now part of Ft. Benning. I’d like to talk to him about Columbus and what it was like to be a Confederate solider. I have a copy of Sara’s Civil War Widows Pension Application found at http://docuweb.gsu.edu/scripts/webmain.dll under Muscogee County. So over the river and thru the wood. . . To someone’s house you go for a wonderful holiday season. Wishing you the best and your family through the holidays. I hope that you find many links to your past in the coming year.
