Surnames: HOLLAND, WYNN Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/1334 Message Board Post: I came across the following while researching an unrelated matter: Published Tuesday, 15 JAN 1884 in the Columbus Georgia Daily Enquirer-Sun newspaper, column 1: Funeral Notice The friends and acquaintances of Mrs. Hettie HOLLAND & James T. HOLLAND & family are requested to attend the funeral of the former at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon from St. Luke Church [Methodist Church, Columbus]. Ibid, column 2: Death of Mrs. Hettie HOLLAND Mrs. Hettie HOLLAND, wife of the late Jas. C. HOLLAND, died on yesterday evening at 4 o’clock at the residence of her son, James T. HOLLAND, in Browneville, Alabama. She was eighty-three years old at the time of her death and leaves three children, all of whom are grown and have families. Mre HOLLAND has lived in and near this city since 1827. Her husband, James C. HOLLAND, was the first sheriff of Muscogee county. She was a member of the Methodist church and held her membership in St. Luke church, in this city, continuously for over fifty years and at the time of her death was probably the oldest member of that church. She was a good woman, and death came to her in the fullness of years, added to the ripeness of piety. Her funeral will take place at 2:30 o’clock p.m. to-day, from St. Luke Church. Ibid, Wednesday, 16 JAN 1884: Funeral of Mrs. HOLLAND The funeral of Mrs. Hettie HOLLAND, of Browneville [Lee Co, AL] took place from St. Luke Church yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The services were conducted by Rev. A. M. WYNN, and were very impressive. A large number of friends escorted the remains to their final resting place [Linwood Cemetery, Columbus]. “Muscogiana,” Vol. 1, No. 4, p. 253, shows: HOLLAND, Hetty (Mrs), 06 DEC 1801-14 JAN 1884; HOLLAND, James C., 27 DEC 1804-19 SEP 1853; HOLLAND, James Thomas, 03 JUN 1834-09 MAR 1896 (other HOLLANDS listed as well). This is not my family - I thought it might be of use or interest to someone. John in TX
