I had asked about Pat Greathouse, this was sent to me by Delilah Evans. I take a lot of small town newspapers and it was in The Phenix Citizen, dated February 27, 2003 PATRICIA DODD GREATHOUSE "April 26, 1935 - February 7, 2003 Phenix City resident Patricia Dodd Hreathouse died at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, Ga. Born in Columbus, she was the daughter of John Allen Dodd and Patricia Josephine Murphy Dodd. Robert Greathouse said his wife had successfully battled cancer and had been in remission for 20 years, but injuries from an automobile accident appeared to trigger a tragic return of her illness. A graduate of Auburn University, Patricia Greathouse had seveeral degrees and awarded accomplishments in education and psychology. She was certified in 1975 as a Psychometrist and spent more than half of her livetime in education. She retired in 1993 from Ladonia Elementary School after 35 years. July 4, 1953, she married Rober Otil Greathouse in Banks. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Her range of interestes and commitments were vast. She was named Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America and is in the Alabama Teacher's Hall of Fame. She was a past president of Phenix City Chapter ABWA with 20 years of perfect attendance. A Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, Mrs. Greathouse was a member of the Summerville Baptish Church. She was on the Phenix City Aerts Council, a member of the Phenix City Retired Teachers Association, an active member of the Oglethorpe Chapter DAR, and she held memberships in several genealogical societies in Alabama and Georgia. Countless honors were bestowed on this lovely woman who loved crafts, quilting, writing peotry and taking art classes from Milton Lenoir. Her greatest love was her family. Her motto was "Live your dream. Life is short." Her determination and unique personality were an inspiration to all who know her. Her usband said his greatest honor and happiness came from "...just being her husband. That's all I ever wanted or needed." In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Mark A. Greathouse and P. Allen Greathouse of Melbourne, Florida; a sister, Barbara Dodd Galloway, Prattville; a brother, John Allen Dodd 11, Phenix City; five grandchildren: Candice, Miles, John Allen, Jasmine and Alexa Greathouse. Funeral services were Feb. 9 at Vance Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joe Walker officiating.
