Pat, I believe Parthenopy is a given name, and evidently of Greek origin. I have encountered the name Parthenia in one of my families. This name is related to the Parthenon, a temple in Greece dedicated to Athena Parthenos - emphasizing the virginal aspect of Athena (as opposed to the warrior aspect of the goddess, as in Athena Nike, a.k.a "Winged Victory"). Parthenopy is likely derived from Parthenos. It doesn't seem terribly common. On one search engine, I found several sites mentioning a contemporary lawyer named Parthonpy A. BARDIS, who passed the bar in New York state. Did you contribute the data on the KIMBROUGH family posted on the Kudzu Families site? The address is: http://www.kudzufamilies.org/kimbrough.htm John Pat Oelslager wrote: >Does any one have a Mary Parthenopy Reese in their datafiles. >She would have been my gr-gr-gr- grandmother. Hi John, thanks for the info, very interesting. The Kudzu site is a group of families. The Kimbrough families was done by Sarah Sharpless, My fathers name was Henry KImbrough Reese, his father Thomas Clopton Rees, was married to first Martha Minerva Kimbrough, they had a son Thomas Matt ,a daughter Annie Reese( Grey), . Martha Minerva died and then my gr grand father married her cousin Martha Minerva Kimbrough and they had a bunch more, including my grandfather Henry Butler Reese. When Sarah Sharpless was putting together the page, she didn't know that Thomas Clopton Rees had been married to the two cousins, and didn't realize there were so many more children. Yes I guess I did contribute a small amount but the credit all goes to Sarah.Take care. Pat (in Fl) American by birth- Southern by the Grace of God researching - Reese,Gibson,Kimbrough,Rodgers,Pool, Williams,Rutledge,Slaughter,Holman,Senn,Oelslager,Moulds,Butts.
