LAND – Ernest Clyde LAND, 85, of Geneva [Talbot Co.], Ga., brother of Superior Court Judge John [Henry] LAND[,] died Wednesday [05 JUL 1978] at the Medical Arts Convalescence Home. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Geneva Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby, Macon Road. Mr. LAND was born Feb. 25, 1893, in Muscogee County, son of Mr. and Mrs. [Aaron] Brewster [Mattie Tabitha MILLER] LAND. He had lived in Geneva for 26 years and was a member of Geneva Presbyterian Church. Survivors also include two sons, Brewster [Mallory] LAND, Columbus, Dr. Ernest C[osby] LAND, Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Sara T[abitha] WILSON [w/o Joseph Benjamin “Bennie” WILSON], Columbus, Mrs. Elizabeth [Leona] MAYFIELD [w/o William Robert “Bill” MAYFIELD, Sr.], Little Rock Ark.; two other brothers, E[llis] B[rooks] LAND, [Brewster] Miller LAND [Sr.], [both] of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. [Sara] Elizabeth DAVIS [w/o Dr. Charles Fe! rguson DAVIS], Mrs. [Martha] Lena CHAPLIN [w/o Richard William CHAPLIN III], Mrs. Mary [Angie] SANDS [w/o Hollis Leonard SANDS], all of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. [This obituary appeared in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Muscogee Co, GA. Clyde m1. 24 DEC 1913 in Talbot Co, GA, to Mattie Lee MALLORY. He obtained a divorce from Mattie (before 1946, date and place not known) and m2. (date and place not known) to Emma TEAL (1916-1978), daughter of Thomas & Louisiana “Annie” (COOK) TEAL. Emma preceded Clyde in death, and they are buried together at the Geneva Cemetery.] Mattie LAND – Mattie Lee LAND, 88, 221 Double Churches Road, Columbus, died today [Wednesday, 30 JAN 1980] at Doctor’s Hospital. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby, Macon Road. Mrs. LAND was born Dec. 27, 1891, in Talbot County, Ga., daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Francis [Marion] [Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” CARAWAY] MALLORY. She had lived in Columbus most of her life and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Sara WILSON, Columbus, and Elizabeth MAYFIELD, Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Brewster LAND, Columbus, and Dr. Ernest C. Clyde worked in a range of fields, including dairy, and served as both mayor and post master in Geneva, GA. Mattie was a homemaker. They were preceded in death by two daughters, Lillian Clyde (LAND) STRIPLING (Mrs. Homer Lee STRIPLING), 1914-1937, and Mary Ann LAND, stillborn ca. 1928.]
