WEEKLEY is Dead at 82 The Rev. Paul Emmett WEEKLEY, 82, Rt. 1, Opelika, Ala., died Sunday [15 JUL 1973] at his residence. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Double Churches Cemetery, Columbus. The Rev. Mr. WEEKLEY was born Feb. 1, 1891, in Muscogee County, a son of the late Emmett G. and Mary (CORY) WEEKLEY. He had lived in Opelika for 10 years, having lived most of his life in Columbus and Phenix City. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and Lee County Lodge No. 454, F and AM [Masonic order]. The Rev. Mr. WEEKLEY had pastored 26 churches in the Columbus-Phenix City area, and until his retirement was pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church of Opelika for 12 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois McCRARY WEEKLEY [1900-1988], Opelika; two daughters, Mrs. Vivian NOELL, Columbus, and Mrs. Phoebe HEATH, Opelika; three son, William G. and Joseph S[hirley] WEEKLEY, both of Columbus, and Luther P. WEEKLEY, Montgomery; and 14 grandchildren. The family suggests that tributes be! made to the Baptist Children’s Home, Troy, Ala., in lieu of flowers.” [This obituary probably appeared in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. Rev. WEEKLEY was pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church (at Double Churches) in Muscogee Co. from about 1939-1949. My dad says he was a full-time carpenter and also preached. His wife and son Joe (called Shirley, which is a family name, when he was young) are also buried in Double Churches Cemetery.]
