What a fun idea for sharing some thoughts about the Holidays and families! Over the river, through the woods to ________________ house you go , "Whose house would you go to?" I would love to visit in the home of my g-grandparents, Willis and Nicey Martin Jinks who lived in Taylor County south of Butler. I'd want them to tell us about their very first Christmas in Georgia, which I think was probably around 1827. I would ask if Willis and Wilborn Jinks were indeed brothers and if their father was William Jinks....and who their mother was ! Also how they all related to the Jinks line in Butts County! Since Willis died in April 1885, I'd want my visit to be Christmas 1884....and also want to hear the discussion of the Jinks families who were planning to move to Texas around 1886. My grandmother, Winnie Virginia Jinks Ruffin, probably never returned to see her home again. Her mother, Nicey Martin Jinks, probably lived until 1891, so there were many years when they would have been thinking of one another at Christmas time. There would have been a house full of grandchildren, although my own father wasn't born until after they moved to Texas. Hopefully there would be a letter from their oldest daughter, Elizabeth, who married Lucius C. Franklin and moved to Mississippi soon afterwards in 1852. Elizabeth died in April 25th 1935, age 98 yrs 2 mo 13 d., so I'm sure her thoughts would have been on Christmas in Taylor County many, many years. Virginia Crilley Virginia
