    3. Whenever you post a query, it is helpful to give a time period. I understand your Grandfather died in 1975, was he in Muscogee County at that time? I don't have a RAIBURN/RAYBORN in my line, just trying to help. The different spelling of the last name is very common. We have to remember everyone didn't read or write - or did so poorly it couldn't be read, so it's very easy to have different spelling. In a workshop I attended once, we were told the census was done by a person going door to door. Normally the men were in the fields and the women were home tending to the chores and children. The women weren't always well educated and couldn't always spell their names. Spelling isn't by itself. Think about the different ways last names are pronounced. My last name is MASSEY (pronounced Masse) telemarketers pronounce it MACY. kemis ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] I am the great, great grand daughter of Newton Monroe Raiburn the original spelling was Rayborn until he moved my mother has more info on that her name is Bonnie Raiburn.
