    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GANN, GRANTHAM Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/1461 Message Board Post: Seeking information on the family of Noel GRANTHAM (b. ca. 1803 SC) and his wife Clarrissa UNKNOWN (b. ca. 1813 GA). Noel heads a household as a retired farmer on the 1880 census of the Clapp’s Factory community in Muscogee Co, GA, with his wife and two daughters: Elmeda (b. ca. 1850 FL), a domestic servant, and Nancy (b. ca. 1852 FL), a seamstress. Also present in the household is Henry GANN (b. ca. 1844 AL), a clerk at the cotton factory. Henry C. GANN m. 22 AUG 1870 in Muscogee Co, GA, to Nancy S. GRANTHAM. In November, he served on a coroner’s inquest jury at Clapp’s Factory. In 1880, Nancy GANN heads a household in the Clapp’s Factory community as a widow. With her are two children, George (b. ca. 1871 GA) and Clara (b ca. 1872 GA), as well as Nancy’s unmarried sister Elmeda. It appears that Henry C. GANN died between 1872 and 1880 and if so, he is probably buried in the Clapp’s Factory Cemetery. Also, Nancy’s parents are unaccounted for in 1880. Did they die there and are they buried in the cemetery? The following story ran in the “Columbus Georgia Daily Enquirer-Sun” newspaper on Tuesday, 15 JAN 1884: “Almost a Fire…While some children were playing on a pile of broom straw under the house of Mrs. GANN, near Clapp’s factory, on Sunday, they accidentally set fire to this straw. There was no man on the place, but Mr[s]. GANN, with the assistance of a little girls [sic] succeeded in extinguishing the fire just as it was taking hold of the building.” When did Nancy (GRANTHAM) GANN die, and what became of her children and sister? I would appreciate any further information on these folks, and will be glad to share what data I have – thanks.
