Have returned from a visit to Providence Church & Cemetery and learned that they are trying to restore the cemetery and put together a church history of any surviving records. The church was established about 1797. Many of the early records were lost during the transition from Providence Freewill Baptist Church to its present day. During this time, the cemetery has many grave sites, with not so many headstones. A survey was done in the 1980's, however, many of the stones are now missing. They are working to restore the cemetery, and need help from surviving family members to help locate and identify loved ones buried there. If you can help to put together the church history and/or identify some of the graves, please be in touch with the church historian, Reba Rae. Her e-mail address is: rebarae@bellsouth.net She would really appreciate any assistance that she can get to help make her job easier. As for myself, I have lots of family buried there, Driver, Hughes, Tomblin, with many extended family members. Go to the Muscogee County, GA website and click on Providence Cemetery and you will find the cemetery index of persons buried there. And find that there are many not named. I do hope that some of you reading this will be able to assist. Thanks for your help. Maureen
