Surnames: Blackmon, Myers Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/287.306 Message Board Post: Irvin Blackmon's real name was Urban Mercer Blackmon. Irvin was what people thought his name was because it sounded that way. He was the son of Nathaniel and Susan A. Blackmon of SC born in Harris Co., GA in 1847. His son Urban Mercer, Jr. was my husbands great grandfather. Urban Mercer married Missouri Dennis in Harris Co., GA in 3/17/1865. His civil war records and marriage certificate list him as Urban Mercer. U. M.'s civil war pension record list Missouri as applicant. Courthouse records show U. M. Blackmon died 8/01 and J. E. Blackmon and William Myers were administrators. "History of Harris Co., GA" list his name as Irvin and Urban. Urban aka Irvin owned Hale's Ferry located at Lickskillet. The property consisted of a cotton gin, a sawmill, a grist mill, a dam and a bridge. The property was purchased from the Hargett family. Most of this Blackmon family lived in Whitaker and are buried at Shady Grove Church Cemetery, along with the Myers, Hales and Hargetts. Trying to find the link of Nathan or Nathaniel born about 1810 in S.C. to the other Blackmon or Blackmans of Harris / Muscogee Co., GA from around 1830.
