    1. [GAMUSCOGEE] Re:Local Heatlt Dept. for birth and death records.
    2. Pat Oelslager
    3. I just found out yesterday that you can go into your local Health Dept. here in Fl and get copies of death and birth certificates, if the person was born in Fl. and also if you are next of kin, like mother ,father or sibling or grandparents (I guess). All my children are grown and over the years they have misplaced their copies of their birthday certificates. When one son lost everthing in an accident he needed his to be able to ID himself. So for $10. each I got all of them locally. Butttttttttttttt, three of them were correct, one of them had my maiden name spelled wrong.(Ruse for Reese) Apparently when the papers were filled out by the nurse or who ever filled out the papers at birth, they made a mistake. They could not correct the mistake at the local Health Dept. I guess I will have to call the main office in Jacksonville and see it that can be corrected. If not down thru the years when some other family member is researching they will hit a brick wall like a few that I have hit along the way. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pat (in Fl) American by birth- Southern by the Grace of God researching - Reese,Gibson,Kimbrough,Rodgers,Pool, Williams,Rutledge,Slaughter,Holman,Senn,Oelslager,Moulds,Butts.

    1. [GAMUSCOGEE] Vital Records
    2. Hi! I am confused about something. On the GA Division of Public Health/Vital Records website, it says that you can obtain certified copies of death certificates from the state vital records office (all counties) or the county in which the death occured. Does this mean that I could walk into the health department here in Columbus and obtain a death cert for someone who died in Troup County? I know in AL you can walk into any county health department and obtain some vital records with the appropriate ID, etc. (Such as a person could get a death cert for someone who died in Randolph Co, AL over at the Russell Co, AL health department.) Sparks The death of this noble young man, occurred at the hospital in Columbus, on the 14th of June, and was rendered peculiarly sad, from the fact that his father was critically ill at a hospital in Atlanta, and his mother could not be with him; was on her way to see him, when the sad intelligence of his death, reached her. His brother, Mr. E.K. Sparks of Atlanta, attended his bedside, and other loving hands administered to every want. Wick held a responsible position as stenographer in Columbus, where he made many friends; quite a number accompanying the remains here, where the interment took place, at Shiloh cemetery. The casket being entirely covered with costly and lovely floral designs, the high esteem in which the deceased was held. He was a member of the M.E. Church, and a regular attendant at its ordinances, his last conversation with his mother, testifying to this assurance. Death came to this young man of fine promise; in the bloom of life, at the age of twenty- one years; and from a human standpoint before his work was finished. There is no surer prophecy of immortality that the incompleteness of human life. Indeed it is like an unfinished shaft. But somewhere in God’s great universe, there is a place, where life, God given life, will be completed. Faith whispers that there is surely such a place, that its gate is alas; the grave; but having once passed its portals we then only, shall begin to live. Then look up grief stricken loved ones, through your blinded tears, with a radiant hope of a happy reunion beyond the tomb. Mrs. G.Y.M. Miss Covington is a beautiful and accomplished young lady of Upatoie and numbers her friends by the score. Mr. McBryde is a most successful and progressive merchant of Geneva and one of the most prominent citizens of Talbot County. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, December 7, 1905 Page 7 Covington – McBryde Miss Ruby Covington of Upatoie and Mr. Robert L. McBryde of Geneva were married at high noon on Wednesday at the Methodist church in Upatoie, the ceremony being performed by Rev. J.O.A. Cook of Talbotton in a most impressive manner. The bride is one of the most charming young ladies of her home city and has been quite popular in social circles. Mr. McBryde is one of the best-known citizens of Talbot County, being engaged in the supply business on large scale at Geneva. The Talbotton New Era Thursday, December 21, 1905 Page 7 Covington – McBryde One of the prettiest social events of the season occurred at Upatoie church at high noon Wednesday the 6th of Dec. Twas the marriage of two of our most popular young people, Miss Ruby Ethel Covington and Mr. Robert Lee McBryde of Geneva. It was the pleasure of the writer to be at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. William Covington when the most sumptuous luncheon was served, the bridal party, thence to the church where we found it elaborately decorated with vines, roses, ferns and chrysanthemums. Mrs. Geo. Edge of Geneva presided at the organ and the party entered by the sweet strains of Lohengrin’s march and were grouped about the chancel. First couple were Miss Blanche King of Box Springs, Miss Iva Johnson of Brantley, Miss Lucile King of Cusseta, Miss Elba Covington next, Miss Willie Edge of Geneva and Miss Smithie McLendon, these young ladies were bridesmaids. Madames A.B. Burns, J.L. Jenkins, Edgar Stevens of Columbus and Mrs. W.C. Jenkins of Upatoie, were Matrons of Honor. They came in and stood inside of chancel. The groom with his brother, Mr. Marvin McBryde, was met at the altar by the Rev. J.O.A. Cook, where he waited for the bride who came in with her sister, Miss Eva May Covington. The ceremony was very impressive during which “Hearts and Flowers” was sweetly rendered. The happy couple left immediately on a tour through Fla. followed by many good wishes and showers of rice. Mrs. McBryde is possessed with many charming traits of character which endear her to all who know her. Mr. McBryde is a fine businessman and has a score of friends. The popularity of this young couple was demonstrated by the many beautiful and costly gifts received. May their lives be one of unalloyed happiness, is the sincere wish of the writer. 1. [GAMUSCOGEE] Request Lookup-Sarah Elizabeth Barnes McCluskey
    2. Could someone please look up a death certificate for me? I'd like to get as much info as possible off of the cert (e.g., parents' names and places of birth, person notifying authorities of her death, spouse (if living), etc.) The woman's name is Sarah Elizabeth Barnes. She married Edward Bengham McCluskey. She was born on Oct 9, 1840 and died on May 4, 1900. I don't know where she lived when she died, but she is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, AL. She had strong ties to Columbus, and she might have lived there at the time of her death. Thanks, Diane Jones Lowe
