    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/1359 Message Board Post: I am trying to expand the Do You Remember Link on my site. I would love to have pictures that show different things from the area. If you have any pictures you can e mail me and let me use for the site I would really appreciate it. There are so many things we remember and would love to see, but can't because they just aren't around any more. I love Now and Then pictures. We have lost so many Schools, Churches, Houses, favorite hangouts, restaurants, etc. through the years. I let Columbus Sqare Mall go without taking pictures and I don't want that to happen again! I tried to make up for that with Kinnett's Dairy and the old Three Arts. Pictures are an important part of my site. I would love to post and share them with everyone so please e mail me and help keep part of our local history and memories alive!

Sealy Yesterday Was a Very Popular Young Man – Funeral At Howard Columbus, Ga., May 24 – The death of Mr. E.C. Sealy, a well-known young man, has cast a pall of sorrow over a large company of friends among whom he was very popular. Mr. Sealy was just twenty-three years of age and was a bright and popular young man, full of life and energy and his death yesterday afternoon at 2:45 o’clock of fever, after an illness of two weeks, at the residence of Mr. C.A. Martin, 108 Eight Street, where he resided, was particularly sad. Mr. Sealy was employed in the bookkeeping department of the Reich & Chambers Company. He came to the city from Howard, Ga., two years ago and identified with St. Luke Methodist Church and its organizations, being a member of the Epworth League and secretary of the Bible class at St. Luke Sunday school. Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Sealy, of Howard, Ga., parents of the deceased, survive him. His mother was with him at the time of his death but the father arrived soon after the young man’s demise. Five brothers and three sisters survive Mr. Sealy, as follows: Messrs. D.N. Sealy, Oland Sealy, Hubbard A. Sealy and W.H. Sealy of Howard, Ga., H.K. Sealy of Abbeville, Ga., Mrs. Lillian Brown of Americus, Ga., and Mamie and Louise Sealy of Howard, Ga. They have the devout sympathy of the young man’s friends in this city. The funeral will take place from the old home place at Howard, Ga., at 10 o’clock this morning and the interment will take place at the Howard cemetery. The remains were carried to Howard, Ga., last night. Many beautiful floral designs were laid on the casket by friends and by the Epworth League and Mr. Sealy’s Sunday school class. The following young men, members of the Young Men’s Baraca class, of St. Luke Church, of which Mr. Sealy was also a member, were the pall-bearers, escorting the remains from the residence on Eight Street to the union passenger station: Messrs. H.E. Weathers, H.R. Mullins, Benjamin T. Brooks, J.E. Nelson, W.C. Henry and J.F. Caldwell. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb

He found it while four wheeling with a friend years ago. He said when he went back years later to try and find it he couldn't. Does any one know if there was a community that would have been in that area? He mentioned it might have been part of Fort Bennings reservation. I told him I knew that Upatoi kind of sits on the line there. If anyone has any information, please let me know so I can pass it on to him. Thanks. 2. Linda - My great grandparents, Alexander and Julia Brannon were also members of St. Luke's at the same time - There is a booklet "100 Years History of St. Luke M.E. Church, South by F.J. Dudley, Columbus, Georgia 1829-1929" The DAR library in Wash., DC has a copy of it. I copied the relevant portion about my ancestors so I don't know if your ggparents are mentioned, but it's worth a try. Have you contacted the church? Good luck. Pat

    2. Linda Heath
    3. Hello All: My name is Linda James Heath. I am researching my great-grandparents: William/Wilbur David Doster and Prudence Wallace Doster. She was from Heard Co. (parents - Abraham and Nancy Johnson Wallace) and he was from Coweta Co.(parents James and Anna Histeley Doster). They married somewhere in Ga. in 1860 after the census was taken. They were in Columbus, Ga. in 1865 when my great Aunt Mollie E. Doster was born and in 1867 when my grandmother Carrie Jane Doster was born. The family attended St. Luke Methodist Church. I have not been able to prove they were there. Does Columbus have City Directories for 1865 and 1867? Any suggestions as to where else I can look? This is my MAJOR brick wall. Any help will be appreciated. God Bless Linda James Heath Mesquite, Texas

    2. Correction: In the below message I said Howard Community was in Harris County, but I reread Virginia's message and Howard Commuity is in Taylor County, Georgia. I am sorry for the mistake. Sandra Hi Lee, Thank you so much for your help.  Altho it helps, it makes it a bit more confusing. So as the Captains name's changed, so did the Captain 's District. I've have wonderful instructions as to how visit Harris County and maps from Virginia Crilly.  Virginia wrote me that Howard was a community in Harris County. I am trying to  pin Howard down so I will know where the Land (1827) might have been.  I am trying to zero in on my gr grandpapa's land and Virginia Crilly has gone above and beyond her duty. Rex2 of Harris County has been a great help also with his knowledge of Harris County. There are no maps with Howard Community, I wonder if  anyone remembers  Howard Community in Harris. Thank you for your reply and helping me. Sandra maiden name Waldrop Geoergia

District 22 is now Talbot County (south of Marshall's Creek - (the Creek cuts through the northwest corner between LL23 and 22 District 20 is Harris County (I don't have a map showing the land lots) Dist 18 is divided -- you can see the tiny dotted line....so most of it is in Harris, but some in Muscogee. 3. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/deeds/1827/surn-w1.txt 2 15 138 Waldrop, Greenberry Gwinnett County Caruthers Muscogee County The Capt Caruthers refers to the Militia District where he was living in Gwinneet County at the time of the drawing. He drew the land in Muscogee -- but remember this is Original Muscogee --- so land district 15 is actually in present day Taylor County. It would have been in Talbot before that...Talbot was formed from Muscogee right after that land lottery. LL 138 is Northeast of present day Howard. He may have sold the land.... and never lived there himself. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/talbot/deeds.html We have the early deeds (Deed Bk C & D) abstracted from Talbot County -- so you might search there. I believe that Carol Johnson has the Deed Bk A & B abstracted, and she would probably do a look up for you. Ask on the GATalbot list ....
