Someone did reply to my inquiry suggesting that he might be interned at Parkhill ( I think). I did stop at the cemetery office, but they had no record of Gerald LATINI being a resident of thier cemetery. His old military unit has a website at: www.161ahc.org A picture of Gerald Latini may be viewed in the photo gallery of Garland Lively.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/1052.1 Message Board Post: I received this message from The Baker Lion's High School website, John found the material and sent it to me. I hope this will help you complete the task you wished to do last year. Betty Rackley Taylor BHS 1954 Early last summer someone on this forum brought up the name of Gerald Latini, an army warrant officer who was killed in Viet Nam. Someone was wondering if he was a Baker High School graduate. I volunteered to do some checking around to see what I could find out. All I could find on the internet was basically when he was killed, where,...... but could not find out where he went to high school. This evening I was at the Bradley Library doing some research for a project that I intend to undertake in the near future and found that I had a few spare moments to kill while waiting for my wife to pick me up on her way home from work. I went into the research department, ( a foreign area to me when I was at Baker ), and told the person on duty what I was looking for. He suggested that I look through back issues of the Columbus Ledger Enquirer, ( which are on micro film ) and see if I could find an obituary. I knew the date of his death, 11-29-67, so that greatly narrowed the field d! own as to the time frame in which I would have to look. The librarian put the micro film in the machine, showed me basically how to use it, wished me luck and headed back to his seat. He had not even got comfortable in his chair when in the Saturday December the 2cd issue on the 3rd page was an article announcing Gerald Latinis' death. Gerald was a 1961 graduate of Columbus High School. He also attended Columbus College and The University of Georgia. No dates as to when he attended these schools were given. He enlisted in the army in December of 1965 and went to helicopter flight school at Ft. Rucker Ala. where he graduated in January of 1967. He arrived in Viet Nam in Febuary of that year where he flew missions for the 161st Assault Helicopter Company until his death in November of that year. While doing some earlier research a couple of months ago I found out that he had been buried at Parkhill Cemetery here in Columbus but I was not able to find a date as to when. If the person that was wondering about Gerald Latini would please respond to this I would greatly appreciate it. Just so that I will know that you saw this. Thanks, John BHS 1970

Guinn accidentally shot and instantly killed himself with a double barrel shot gun at 11:35 o’clock Friday morning at Mineral Springs, on North Highlands. Young Guinn, in company with his 17 year old brother Jeter Guinn, left their home on Upper Fourth Avenue this morning early on a hunting expedition and after hunting awhile came to Mineral Springs where the elder Guinn boy decided to get a drink of water. Jeter Guinn handed the younger boy the shotgun to hold while he stooped down to drink the water and just as he bent over the spring he heard a shot fired and looking around at once saw his young brother fall on a rock on which he had been standing. The elder Guinn began calling for help and soon attracted the attention of some people living in the neighborhood who hastened to the scene and examined the wounded boy and found at once that death had been instantaneous. The entire load from the right barrel had entered the heart, tearing a large hole in the body on account of the closeness of the gun barrel to the child’s side when the weapon was accidentally discharged. Additional Comments: Note - The newspaper printed the boy's name as Danie. I've wondered if this is an error and the name should be Daniel or Dannie. I'm no a researcher of this family and don't know the correct name of the individual. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb

Rowe, formerly a citizen of our town had taken his life, and the sadness of the intelligence was deepened when the news also came that the wife of Mr. Rowe had died from nervous prostration caused by the death of her husband. It is stated that the health of Mr. Rowe had been bad for quite a while, and that he had become very despondent as to his recovery, and that he was feeling worse than usual and asked his wife to phone for a physician, she did so and while she was gone upon this errand Mr. Rowe went into an adjoining room and cut his throat with a knife which resulted in his death in an hour. When Mrs. Rowe returned and found that her husband had cut his throat she was so overwhelmed with grief that she lost consciousness from which she never revived and died Tuesday night at 8:50 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Rowe had many friends and relatives in this county, and were for several years residents of Butler. Mr. Rowe had one brother, Mr. S.H. Martin, Able Jurist and Prominent Citizen, Dies >From Columbus Ledger of Sunday Judge John Henry Martin, twice Judge of the Superior Court of the Chattahoochee Circuit, prominent churchman and distinguished citizen died Saturday afternoon at 1:50 o’clock at the residence of his son-in-law, Judge A.W. Cozart, at 317 Thirteenth Street, where he was taken Wednesday afternoon immediately after being stricken with paralysis, while sitting in the office of Judge Cozart in the Garrard building. Judge Martin came down from his country home at Ossahatchie Wednesday morning expecting to return that afternoon, it being his custom to come to the city twice a week to look after the interests of the corporations that he represented and also several large estates. While sitting in the office of his son-in-law, Judge Cozart, chatting pleasantly, he felt the stroke coming on and asked to be taken to the home of Judge Cozart as quickly as possible. According to the statement of those who gathered around him after the stroke of apoplexy came upon him, his mind was perfectly clear and that he realized from the first the seriousness of his condition. After being taken to the home of Judge Cozart, he asked that all of his children be summoned as quickly as possible, stating that he wished to see them. He chattered with members of the family and friends at his bedside for two or three hours, but he felt paralysis coming on him and knew that it would be but a short while before he would lose consciousness, yet he ever uttered a word of complaint, nor was he in any particular pain. The stoke of apoplexy which came upon him about 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon was followed by paralysis in the left side. About 4 o’clock the same afternoon he became unconscious and never regained consciousness until the end, at the hour stated above Thursday morning at an early hour he became partly paralyzed on the right side and from that time on was practically in a dying state. Judge Martin gradually grew weaker from that time until the end came, which was as peacefully as a tired child falling to sleep. Those at his bedside could scarcely tell when the end came so peaceful and gentle did it come, without a struggle or protest against the grim reaper. Shock To His Friends When the announcement was made that Judge Martin has passed into the great beyond, it caused a profound shock throughout the city, not withstanding the fact that it had been momentarily expected since Wednesday night. Thousands of people felt in the instant that they had suffered an irreparable loss by the death of one who had long taken an active part in the affairs of the city and state. The people of Columbus and the state had been told that there was absolutely no hope of Judge Martin’s recovery as it had been seen from the first that death was only a matter of hours, but their interest in his condition did not let up, as was evidenced by the flood of inquiries received from every source regarding his condition, the people holding out against hope that there might possibly be a change for the better. Even with all these facts before them the grief of the people was nonetheless great. It is believed by many who were closest to Judge Martin that the shock produced by the death of his wife Tuesday a week ago had much to do with the stroke of apoplexy, which was followed by paralysis resulting in his death. Being greatly devoted to his wife, the strain upon his mind and nervous system caused by her death no doubt had much to do with bringing the stroke upon him. The death of his wife brought great sorrow to him, which was very evident to those who were associated with him after her death. The people of Columbus have lost a loyal friend, the church a safe counselor and the city and state one of their ablest men. His death leaves a vacancy that will require a man of much ability to fill, for he was a man that towered high above the average man of this day and generation. I am searching for an Ebenezer b abt 1847 and William b abt 1845. They are sons of Jesse (Henry) & wife Nancy METTS LANGFORD who appeared in the 1850 Clinch Co, GA census. Any information is welcomed! Where did Ebenezer go after 1867????
