Surnames: Evans, Denny, Denney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xd.2ADE/1486 Message Board Post: I got a copy of the form from the social security administration the other week that I sent off for that is the form that my birth mother filled out to get her social security number. It shows her name at birth was Sara Grace Evans. It says she was born in Reeltown in Tallapoosa county AL. It says her birthday is 10/11/28. It shows her father's name was Jessie Evans and her mother's maiden name was Violet Blanch Denney. The middle name maybe spelled Blanche. A friend of mine found on the 1910 census that Raslee Denney lived in Tallapoosa county and was born in GA. His wife's name was Lillie. They had 6 kids, Jessie L, Lillie, Robert, Cleone, Renny, and Violet B. I'm thinking this Violet B. maybe my grandmother. The 1930 census also shows for Reeltown, Tallapoosa county: Marvin Denny- head of house, Mandie Denny- wife, Syble- daughter, Johnie L.- son, R.L. Denny- father, and Blanche Evans- sister. So by this, Blanche's maiden name was Denny and her father's name was R.L. The ! census also shows Blanche, Marvin, and her parents were born in Georgia. I know the last name Denny is spelled different on both census, but I've heard last names on the census back then was spelled like it sounds. You can email me at [email protected] Please include on the subject line the name Violet Denny. Since this county isn't that far from Tallapoosa county, I was hoping someone may know of at least one of these people listed.

    1. Re: Lottey Lots in Georgia's Map.
    2. Eugenia, Could you please tell me the date of the map you posted with the Lots in the Counties of Georgia. Harris and Talbot is still inside of Muscogee County. I am interested in the 1827 Georgia Lottery, Harris, Talbot and Muscogee. I am also interested knowing which of the Lottery winners came in thru Whitesville, Georgia. 1827 Whitesville had Stagecoach Roads near Jones Crossing that led to Columbus and other Counties. In 1830 Whitesville, Georgia was a booming little town with homes, Churches, schools and saloons.(Whitesville was also a gathering place for ministers.) Dose anyone on the Georgia List know of any other Stagecoach Roads our ancestors could have came in on and settled in that area? My gr gr grandpapa settled in Hamilton, Georgia after buying land in Harris, Talbot and Muscogee County. He was listed on Census in Hamilton, Georgia. I think Alabama Road in Waverly Hall used to be a Stagecoach Road. My gr gr grandpapa came to Harris County from Gwinette County. It appears that Whitesville, Georgia's Stagecoach Road ran form North to South and the Alabama Stagecoach Road ran from East to West Georgia. Whitesville's ancestors came from North Georgia and North and South Carolina and Alabama ancestors traveled from East Georgia. I stand to be corrected. If there are other ways, please let me know. Before 1830 (no trains) these Stagecoach Roads had heavy traffice, with many Stagecoaches traveling at one time. Where were the other Stagecoach Roads and what were their names? I would love to hear any stories about the time frame 1827-1840. Thanks for any help. Sandra maiden nand Waldrop Muscogee County

J.W. Howard 70 Years Old Venerable Baptist Minister Celebrates His Birthday Pleasantly The Rev. J.W. Howard, the oldest Baptist minister in Columbus, and who is universally beloved, regardless of creed or denomination, celebrated his seventieth birthday quite pleasantly Thursday at his home. Gathered with him and his wife were their entire family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and it was indeed a happy day with this venerable man of God. At 12:30 o'clock all were invited into the dining room, where a most bountiful repast was served. Seated around the long table were the Rev. and Mrs. Howard with all their children to bless them in their ripe old age. After the bountiful and delightful dinner, Mr. Howard enjoyed a game of I-spy with the children and incidentally challenged any man present to throw him down on this, his 70th birthday, a challenge which it may be stated, was not accepted. 2. John Mallory Land
    3. As I posted previously, land lot #15 in the Fifth Land District is in present-day Chattahoochee County (created 13 FEB 1854 from parts of Muscogee and Marion Cos.). If you go to the following page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gachatta/ne.htm <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Egachatta/ne.htm> (on the Chattahoochee Co. site at USGenWeb), this lot appears on the southeast quadrant map. The number 5 (for Dist. 5) is circled in red in the upper right corner of this quadrant. This map was made between about 1918 (after the establishment of Ft. Benning) and about 1939 (before the expansion of the reseravation to the Talbot and Marion Co. lines). I don't have a current map in front of me, so I don't know whether or not this lot is now on the Ft. Benning Reservation. I believe the "2nd section" is not a division within Land District 5. Rather, I suspect this is Land District 5 in the 2nd section of the area that was divdided and given away in the 1827 GA land lottery to encourage settlement by Whites following the cession of this territory from the Creek Indians to the State of Georgia. Each standard-sized lot contained 202.5 acres (there were some fractional lots). (If I'm mistaken about the "2nd section," could someone please clarify?)
