Georgia death records online show an Ed GURLEY dying in 1921 and an Edward GURLEY dying in 1926, but beyond that there's little information I've found. Any help will be very much appreciated. 1. HENDERSON Family
    2. Pam Bates-Kyle
    3. Looking for information on my "Henderson" family. Have recently seen newly released 1860 cencus. Would like to get info on my afro american family shown as "free inhabitants" on the Columbus, Muscogee County, Ga. 1860 census. Very few blacks are recorded on this census, however, my Gr gr gr grandmother is : Charlotte Henderson, blk female, age 30 from Alexandria, Va is listed with her children: Bell, Logan, Delia, George and Tom or Sam. I am told that if a black person was listed as free, someone had papers on her and she had to have those papers anywhere she went or she would be fined. Does anyone know where I would go to find out who owned her papers. This would give me great leads into per past. I have the death certificate of her daughter, my gr gr grandmother Delia Henderson O'Neal and it indicates that her father was Geo Henderson. The only Geo Henderson in Muscogee at the time was Geo Henderson, white male 27. Don't know if there is any connection. Geo's census info was taken at the nearby bank (managed by Paul J. Semmes). Geo Henderson was a bank clerk. Mr. Semmes has a well documented story associated with the beginnings of Georgia and the start of the Civil War. Charlotte eventually re-married and is shown in Glenville, Russell County, 1870 census, living on the Sterling Boykin "plantation" as their cook. By 1880 she was back in Columbus and remained there until her death. Any info would be greatly appreciated...PBK

    3. Hi Kemis! The cemetery that you area referring to is known as the Patrick Cemetery. The Patrick family owned land there and still do if I remember correctly. Jan has posted pics of it on her website. It is kind of a spooky place for us that live near it!!!! I am only about 5 blocks from there!!!! As children, I, along with other neighborhood children would wander through it and scare each other (also in the woods with the Nix graves across BV Rd. coming home from school!!!) Bullock, of this city, and robbed it of one of its brightest jewels. Little Ossie fell a victim to that terrible disease, diphtheria Sunday night at 8 o’clock. He was only four years of age, and was a bright and handsome child. His death is a severe blow to the fond parents, who only a short time ago had one of their little darlings taken from them by the same terrible disease. IN their deep bereavement they have the sympathy of a large number of friends. The funeral took place at 11 o’clock Monday morning, and the services were conducted by Rev. G.N. Phelts is dangerously wounded, but has a good chance for recovery. This is the net result of the assault made on the Muscogee County jail at one o’clock this morning, when a mob tried to get Henry Taylor, a negro arrested three days ago on a charge of criminally assaulting a young girl. Kent, who resided in Phenix City, died at the city hospital at nine o’clock this morning of his wound. He was twenty-two years of age, a mill operative and unmarried. Jailer Phelts was struck by a bullet with such force that he was knocked known (down?). The bullet entered his chest, in the region of the lung but apparently not striking the lung. He fell backward and reached for his rifle. The police arrived and dispersed the mob. Mr. Phelts is fifty-three years old and has been jailer of Muscogee County fifteen years. This is the second mob he has faced, although hitherto no resort to firearms was made. Six or eight men were arrested, charged with being members of the mob, and five of them are still in jail.
