Hi Jean, I need to bother you with a question. My Dad was born in Spring Place, Murray Co. ,GA on Feb. 23, 1882 to Stephen Goodson Carter and Martha Ann Shelton Carter. Stephen Goodson was born in Ashville, Buncombe Co. NC on Aug. 14, 1837 and Martha Ann was born in Cleveland, Bradley Co., TN. My Dad's name was Thomas Coffee Carter and he was one of 8 children born to Stephen and Martha. I have often wondered where Dad's middle name came from and have thought , perhaps, that he was named after someone kin to or a close friend of the family, but I still don't know. Do you have any knowledge of or connection to the Carter's in Murray County? Tom P.
