Hello all: I am new to the list and wondered if you folks can help with this mystery. My ancestor was William Prince and is in the 1850 census of Murray county with his wife Arty and their children. William's oldest son Ira is my direct ancestor. The family moved to Murray county in the fall of 1850 from Habersham county where they were listed in the census there. With the exception of my Ira H Prince, all the other family members of that 1850 census virtually disappeared. William was 65 in 1850 and his (second) wife was only 38. Can someone please look at your 1860 census for Murray county and see if you find them? If William died while in Murray county(before the 1860 census) is there a complete cemetary listing? I understand there is a Murray county Heritage Book, also. There was supposed to be a great flu epidemic in the U.S. in the 1850's. Does any Murray county historian know if that area was affected by this disease? Sorry if this is too much to ask, but I am at one of those dead ends that show up too often in family research. Any info on my family would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks Ira P Prince
I don't know if there is a connection but it is worth checking out since you have hit a brick wall. In the Fannin County, Georgia marriage records (Fannin County is near Murray County) there is a listing for a William J. Prince married M. L. Shadwick on August 20, 1893. Good luck. Peggy "Ira P.
