Can someone help? I have a copy of a marriage license for James LEDBETTER and Celia MACHEM or VA_CHEM (very hard to read), Murray Co, GA, issued 27 July, 1830 and returned 3 August, 1838. The Index for Murray Co, GA marriages lists her as Celia Machem ?. Could VA_CHEM be a Native American name? Family tradition states that Celia was Native American. My ancestor, Celia Ann Susan Elizabeth BLACKWELL, born ca 1822, married a ____Ledbetter and had a son, J Marion Ledbetter, b ca 1840, GA. ____Ledbetter probably died, because Celia Ann Susan Elizabeth Ledbetter married James Worley in 1846 in Chattoosa Co, GA. By the 1850 census James and Susan Worley were living in Cherokee Co, AL. Could the bride in the above marriage have been my Celia Ann Blackwell, using an Indian name or maybe she had been married before marrying the Ledbetter. I have yet to determine the parents of Celia Ann Susan Elizabeth Blackwell. Perhaps she was descended from John Blackwell who moved to Walker Co, GA ca 1830 from Rutherford Co, NC. Thank you, Georgia Walsh
