This is all very interesting when it comes to Stone folk. I honestly don't know if mine connected with McElreaths or not. As near as I can figure it, mine are: James Stone of SC , who was the father of Wiley b.1803 SC , possibly a John and a George and a Johnathan and a James. Wiley was my ggf and he m. Candus Buckner. I suspect the land lottery drew them to GA from SC. I have the line pretty good from Wiley to date, but am still very sketchy on his siblings and his ancestory. Murray and Hall would be logical counties for them to have moved thru on the way to Forsyth by 1840-50 and Milton 1860 (though that was the same place, different name) Wiley's oldest child was a daughter, Ellender Stone, who appears on the 1850 Forsyth Co, GA census as Mrs Ben WILSON, living very near her folks place. Most Stones moved to the area of Blount Co , AL in time for the Civil War and 2 of his sons ( Wm P., my gf being one) wee in the 28th Ala Inf. Not sure where sons James and Wesley served. By 1866 they are on a Blount Co census and by 1870 they are mostly in Boone Co, AR where they stuck around until around 1900.
