I am researching my g-g grandmother, Alice Ann McLain who was born in Georgia on October 1, 1862. Her father, as listed on her death certificate (from 1938 in Texas), is Tom McLain of Georgia. Her mother's name is not listed on the death certificate. She married George Washington Smith (who's father, Jerry Smith, was from Towns County, Georgia). They had my great-grandmother, Laura Zeora Smith June 3, 1886 also in Georgia. I am trying to determine if my Alice Ann McLain is the same person as "Anna" McLain who is found on the 1880 Census for Shuck Pen, Murray County, Georgia. The age is right and some of the siblings names on the 1880 Census are also found later on the 1920 Census for Alice Ann and her husband George's family, in Texas, which include their children's names, "Tom" and "Elisha"; however, I know that these were very common names at the time.
