Hi Annabel, It's Judy not David. I'm the one doing genealogy. All I can tell you is Dave's grandfather, when I met him in the 60's, said they wanted a better life is why they came to Texas. He said they walked part way. I don't know about that because they did have a train in the middle 1880's according to a lady in Whitfield Co. who did a lot of our research. This gentleman was close to the end of his life and did have a lot to say. I'm just so sorry I never made notes. Unfortunately 40 years ago I wasn't into genealogy. I spoke to another elderly family member several years ago who remembered her grandmother from Dalton, GA. and she said they brought some furniture in a covered wagon, then crossed the river on a barge and took the train the rest of the way. All of the Murray and Whitfield relatives owned land in Texas just as soon as they settled. Sorry I can't be more helpful Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Annabel Seltzer" <annabel@chilitech.com> To: <GAMURRAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2003 11:20 AM Subject: Re: [MURRAY] McElreath > Dear Mr. Bowman: > > I have just returned from Murray Co GA and did find a number of interesting > things I did not know.
