    3. Anna, There is a Murray County Marriages book published by the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society. Their phone number is 706-278-0217 or you can find a list of the publications and prices at http://www.geocities.com/huntingkin/ There is a link about a quarter of the way down the page. It is still best to call them though and see if there are any specials running on the books or price changes. They also have a Murray County Heritage book. I believe that Marcelle at the Historical Society might possibly have some listings on some of the cemeteries over here but I am not sure. Give her a call, she will be glad to help you. 1. [MURRAY] Thomas Cronan
    2. Hello List, I have just signed on so here is who I am and what I am researching. My name is Steve Strickland. My line is: George W., John Robert, William McKinley, William Roy then me. My brick wall is George W. Strickland's father. The reason I signed on to the Murray County list is Thomas Cronan. He married George W.'s child, Mary Ann. I was hoping to find descendants of George W.'s other children so I could find out what, if anything, they knew about George W. and his parents. My Dad says Thomas Cronan is buried somewhere around Chatsworth. Does anyone have anything on Tom Cronan? Here is all I have: Tom Cronan b. March 1852, married Mary Ann Strickland (b. 1862, Gilmer, GA) November 9, 1893. They are in the Gordon County, GA, census of 1900 and in the Polk County, GA, census in 1920. Mary Ann died in 1936, and since she was ten years older, and was buried in East Etowah, McMinn, TN, next to her brother and sister in law, I figure Tom must have died near to but after 1920. Thanks in advance for your time and help. Steve Strickland

    3. I don't have much on this line. Several people have told me that Elizabeth is the sister of Rebecca Littleton. Rebecca married Wiley Pankey (married unknown date, abt. 1834). Their daughter, Elizabeth Pankey, was my great-great grandmother. dkp ----- Original Message ----- From: "cwvinson" <cwvinson@abs.adelphia.net> To: <GAMURRAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 9:20 PM Subject: [MURRAY] Williams/Littleton | Hattie WILLIAMS (1868-1956) was born in Murray County (Chatsworth). 1. Re: [MURRAY] Ancestors--Fouts
    2. Pg 306:During the Civil War, Union troops converged on the Valley--perhaps aiming for the uiron works and the mills. As the soldiers pillaged and plundered, they arrived at the Fouts homestead. During their 4-day stay the soldiers killed attleand hogs, made the women wook round the clodk, took the beds, crowded the fire, burned furniture, abused the children, and hanged Solomon Fouts froma tree in the yard. The soldiers then got into an argument (possibly because one soldier tried to end the mistreatment) and one man was killed. The men discovered that Mr Fouts was not dead and cut the rope so he could bury the dead Yankee. Mr Fouts did so and today the grave can still be seen on the north side of the Fouts Family Cemetery. When the soldiers departted the Fouts family was left with only a calf and a pig. Pg 307, Ben Fouts (l898-l904) was a Justice of the peace. Pg 308: In February 1881 Minerva Fouts deeded land to the trustees of a Methodist church located on the east side of the Conadauga River in Land Lot 161. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. I don't know if there is a connection but it is worth checking out since you have hit a brick wall. In the Fannin County, Georgia marriage records (Fannin County is near Murray County) there is a listing for a William J. Prince married M. L. Shadwick on August 20, 1893. Good luck. Peggy "Ira P. 3. Hello all: I am new to the list and wondered if you folks can help with this mystery. My ancestor was William Prince and is in the 1850 census of Murray county with his wife Arty and their children. William's oldest son Ira is my direct ancestor. The family moved to Murray county in the fall of 1850 from Habersham county where they were listed in the census there. With the exception of my Ira H Prince, all the other family members of that 1850 census virtually disappeared. William was 65 in 1850 and his (second) wife was only 38. Can someone please look at your 1860 census for Murray county and see if you find them? If William died while in Murray county(before the 1860 census) is there a complete cemetary listing? I understand there is a Murray county Heritage Book, also. There was supposed to be a great flu epidemic in the U.S. in the 1850's. Does any Murray county historian know if that area was affected by this disease? Sorry if this is too much to ask, but I am at one of those dead ends that show up too often in family research. Any info on my family would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks Ira P Prince
