Hi, Just a reminder, if you will be out at the cemetery this weekend making pictures, please make a few extra to share with those researchers not fortunate enough to be from this area or that are not able to travel to the cemeteries. I have received many comments from people saying that they would appreciate anyone that can do this because they are unable to travel for health reasons and have to do all their research by computer or mail. So please, if you haven't finished that roll off on your own find a few extra burial markers and snap them, scan the pictures and email them to me along with the cemetery name and county and I will get them posted in hopes they may help other researchers. Photos are not limited to what you take this weekend. If you have old ones lying around that you would be willing to share you may send them also. If you do not have scan capabilities please contact me and we will work something out to do them by snail mail. Many, many thanks from me and all the other researchers out here in internet land. Out of 7 or 8 messages in the digest mode, only one had a subject line that pertained to the message. My best wishes to all for a wonderful holiday weekend. Would anyone who lives in Texas, or who has a friend or relative who lives in Texas please write me off list. This is not related to geneology. I don't have a great deal of information on Harphrey A. Holland, however, I am happy to share what I have. First, I have been unable to find his parents names or where they were from. Harphrey was born in 1813 in N.C. and married Eliza Unity Wise (do not know date of marriage). Eliza was also born in 1813. All 9 of their children were born in N.C. The children's names were Louritta, John Wesley, Benjamin Gibson, Marha Jane, Cecelia G., Louisa, Elizabeth Ann (my g-grandmother), Harphrey A. Jr., and Alfred Estes. The family was in Murphey, N.C. in the 1850 census. They moved to Benton, Polk C. TN. before 1860. Eliza U. died May 25, 1878 in Polk Co. and is buried in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery , Tennga, GA. After her death, Harphrey left Polk Co. and went back to Beaverdam, Haywood Co., N.C. to live with a cousin, John D. Kindsland. Sometime after 1880 he left N.C. and went to Stillwell, Indian Territory to be with his sons John and Benjamin. He died on April 8, 1893 and is buried at Zion Cemetery, Stillwell, Adair, Oklahoma. I have more info on his children, their birth and death dates as well as who they married . If you care to have those please let me know. Hope this information helps you. Jo Ann Dunn Sewell
JoAnne, I would like the dates on your Hollands. Have not seen that name, Harphrey, before.
Great idea! Thx! J.C.
Hi All, The following message was posted on another mailing list that I subscribe to and I thought it might be a good idea to pass along. A lot of you will be going there to make those pics anyway so why not add a few more as a kindness to those not able to be there to make their own. Some may not be able to travel and some may just live too far away. Do other genealogy researchers a big favor and include those extras. Then if you will email them to me and specify the cemetery, I will post them online for other researchers to see. > Greetings, all! > With this weekend being Memorial Day, and several of you will be > traveling to cemeteries, I would like to suggest that you take a digital > camera with you, and take some photos of the tombstones in the cemeteries > that you visit. Small cemeteries can easily be covered by one person, but > larger cemeteries would need several people to take photos. > This is just an idea I'm floating/proposing, since cemeteries usually > look their best at Memorial Day, and it usually isn't too hot yet to be > out. >>so there is somewhere to put all these photos once we gather them. On behalf of all the other researchers out there and myself I would like to thank you in advance for your kindness. I am interested in a Leander Williams, born. Feb 20th. 1851. Married to Sarah J. Pankey. b 1846. They were married in April 1871. They had the following children. Rebecca. b. approx 1875 Nancy ? {couldnt read the name on census very well} 1876 and Margaret M. b. approx 1879. They lived in Murray cnty for several years, then they seem to disappear. Thanks for any help.
When I visited the cemetery and church, my impression was that they were both within Murrray County, GA. Of course, I believe the TN state line was virtually across the road from the church. According the to US Geological Survey database, they consider it within Murray County: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Liberty+Church&f_stat e=GA&f_latlong=345915N0844352W&f_ht=.0078125&server=TIGER http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=12&T=2&X=883&Y=4841&Z =16&W=1 http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=3535&Y=19369 &Z=16&W=1 FYI... My Hollands are gggrandfather and mother, Harphrey A. Holland and Eliza Unity Wise Holland g-grandmother (Harphrey and Eliza's daughter ) Elizabeth Ann Holland Dunn. Harphrey and Eliza's other children were; Louritta, John Wesley, Benjamin Gibson, Martha Jane, Cecelia G., Louisa, Harphrey A. Jr., and Alfred Estes. If you need b. and d. dates for these, just let me know. Jo Ann Dunn Sewell
Who are JoAnn Sewell's Hollands?
Hi Jo Ann, No, these are just the names and pics submitted to me by one person for posting. There are definitely many, many more from what I have heard. I have never been there myself but am willing to post any and all burials that are sent to me, with or without pics. I didn't know that part of it was designated as a Murray County section and will post any that are in that cemetery regardless of where they are from. I have someone sending me another list of names to add to it but I don't know who all or how many more are on it until I get it. If you would like to send yours I would be more than happy to post them. Paula, I don't quite understand this posting. Are these names of the individual that are buried in the Murray County section of the cemetery? I have visited the cemetery many times and there are a lot more graves there than what is on this list. I have a grandfather, great-grandmother, g-g grandfather and mother, step-great grandmother, great uncles and aunts and many cousins that were not listed. Can you clarify this situation for me. Thanks, Jo Ann Dunn Sewell researching; DUNN,BYRD,BIRD,FINNELL,HOLLAND,LAWSON, WISE, PARMAN AND PENN
When I visited the cemetery back in 2000, I only photographed about 30-40 graves. I think that is what is currently listed on the site. Joe D. I have just uploaded 36 names and photos to this cemetery and even though the cemetery is located just across the state line Tennga still belongs to GA or did the last I heard so I included this cemetery. Please stop by and check it out. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamurra2/LibertyChCem.html **Many thanks to Joe Deaver for the names and the use of his photos for posting to this site.** If anyone else has names or photos to contribute for any of the Murray County cemeteries please feel free to send them to me and I will be more than happy to post them. Thank you, Paula
