Mr. Pritchett, I just checked my "Murray County Heritage" and on page 496, found the following under the heading of Future Farmers of America: "In 1980 the FFA String Band was invited to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City , Missouri. Members were Jim Pankey, Mark Tatum, Robert Leonard, Bobby Patterson, and Mike Davis, Advisor. This is the only mention of Pankey in this publication, and it wwas submitted by G.I. Maddox in 1981. There are 5 Pankey's listed in the Chatsworth phone book; Dawn, Hobert, James, John M. and Mark. If you don't already have this info, maybe it will help. I have worked on the Pankeys, but never found much on Leander Williams except for his name as Sarah's spouse. But I was just now looking at his name, which is unusual, and wondered if you had ever looked in census or cemetery lists for alternate spellings or possible nicknames, such as "Leonard" Williams (possible sound-alike or misspelling), or "Lea" or "Lee" Williams? Also, like the others, I think that Gilmer County would be a very likely place to look, since many of the Pankeys lived there. Good morning, I have added several new items of information to the Murray County AHGP web site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamurra2/ this week. I live in MAURY Co., TN. Columbia is the county seat. It is located 40 miles south of Nashville. The name is pronounced MURRAY, so that may account for the confusion. The county was established in 1807 and we are fortunate to have all of our records back to that time. We have a very active Historical Society and have published a quarterly since 1965, which is called "Historic Maury". Membership in the society is $10.00 per year, which includes the quarterly. I am looking for anyone with connections to Wilson history in 1800. William Wilson was my gg-Granddad. He married a Rosa Lee Brackett from Gilmer Co. Karla Jones has submitted a summary of the Journal of John Joseph Pledger Jeans Murphy, written in 1886-87 while serving as a Mormon missionary in the Southern Mission. (GA - AL - TN) The author was born as John Joseph Pledger Jeanes (Jeans), and served in the Confederate Civil War as Jeanes (Jeans). His surname"...was changed to Murphy by an act of legislature after moving to Utah." He died in 1889 in Colonia Juarez, one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico. While the predominate Surnames in the Journal are Chambers, Jeans, Murphy and Pledger, he also mentions, by name, his old friends, soldiers he served with in the Confederate Army and people he met along the way. Tom, I haven't met Katie Langston at Spring Place. I have wondered if the Langstons that I see in some of the Whitfield-Murray records are related to our Langston Family. I don't see her name in my Springfield Books. Joyce Ellis and Ann Pollard are working on a Langston Book for publication and I do hope her line is included. The ladies did a great job with their two volume set on the Springfield Family. We met quite a number of people from Spring Place when we attended the marker dedication in the Bradley Family (aka Old Antioch ) Cemetery in Dalton, Georgia in 1987.
