    1. RE: [MURRAY] BOATWRIGHT surname
    2. Susan Boatwright
    3. Good Morning Mary, I was just wondering around, not actually researching. My Boatwright's are from Murray County. My husband, P.W. Boatwright was born in Murray Co 1938. His father, Chris, born in 1899, died 1999. His grandfather, Steven Douglas, died early 1950's. His gr grandfather was James. All but my husband, "Pete", are buried at Nine Mile UMC Cemetary in Gilmer Co. (it is only 1 mi from Murray Co line). We have recently built a home on Grassy Mtn in Murray. It's on the original Boatwright property and the birthplace of my husband. I have a list of Steven's siblings but do not recognize your name. Perhaps Daniel and James were brothers?? Interesting to hear from you. We have found 1850 and 1860 Census' in Murray Co. listing a Josiah in the house of Abraham Burger. Most of the suspected siblings match also. Can anyone help confirm this match or disprove it? Suspected siblings were Henry K. Burkett enlisted into GA state Guard from Murray Co., Jasper Burkett, and Lucy Burkett. All three resided in McMinn Co., TN after the Civil War and Died there. 3. New to the list so thought I would toss the information out. John Marshall Harkins b: 14 July 1859 Spring Place, Murray, GA d: 17 July 1945 Miami, Ottawa Co., OK m: Jan 19, 1882 Gordon Co., GA wife Sara Jane Pulley b: 26 September 1866 Spring Place, Murray, GA d: 02 November 1938 Miami, Ottawa Co., OK unable to locate Sara Jane in 1880 census parents Will and Amanda/Jane moved to Gilmer Co by 1900 Census First 2 or 3 children probably born in Spring Place, GA Fannie Abbie Harkins b: 07 April 1884 not with family in 1900 census Thomas Oliver Harkins b: 14 May 1885 Spring Place, Murray Co., GA d: 20 January 1967 Coffeyville, KS John Tillman Harkins b: 19 April 1888 not with family in 1900 census I have inherited most of this information without supporting documents. Fortunately it was started long ago. John Marshall's parents have been an unknown for a long time but it appears a cousin found him in the 1860 census in NC, Cherokee County, Shooting Creek District under the name Hawkins: Tilman Hawkins (Harkins) age 21, Mechanic, born in Haywood County, N.C. Wife Jane, age 22, born in Murray County, Georgia. Daughter Dovina (Vina ?), age 6, born in Murray County, Son John, age 1, born 1859 Murray Co. Family story is there was a younger daughter named Mandy. I have no other information on Vina (Dovina) or Mandy Tilman is not found again after the war. Have not found civil war records on him. I think I found John Marshall in 1880 in Doolittle, Murray, Georgia in a probably unrelated household (Leonard) Not sure where to search for any of them in 1870 - probably my next task. I am searching this from California so the distance and unfamiliarity make it more ... uh ... interesting. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Catherine

    1. [MURRAY] DOCK MONTGOMERY
    2. Lee Anne Center
    3. Hi, I hope you can help. My great-grandmother was Leona Bernice Montgomery and was born in GA. According to her death certificate, her parents were also born in GA and were Dock Montgomery and Laura Jones. I am trying to locate and find out information about her parents and who their parents were. I have reason to believe that her parents were from Murray Co., GA. Recently, I found a William Franklin Montgomery who was married to Laura Jones and both are the right ages to have been her parents. I'm wondering if anyone on the list has infomation that can help me confirm my suspicions. I'm told that Dock was a common nickname, so I do not know if his name was Dock or if his name was something else and he was nicknamed Dock because he was a doctor or for some other reason. Here is what I know: Dock Montgomery (b. in GA) + Laura Jones (b. in GA) -> Leona Bernice Montgomery (b. 3 Sept. 1853 in GA; m. to John W. Boler) Thanks in advance for any help you can be in helping me take my line back another generation or more. Lee Anne Center

    3. Shirley, Do you happen to have the book: "Murray County Heritage"? I do have it, and there are several articles on the HOLLANDS. It will take some time to sort them out, but I will send them to you if you like. One says, (Susan HOLLAND born ca. 1825-30 is reported to be the daughter of Jacob and Esther also. She married Joseph RUSSELL in 1847 in Murray County. I have no records for her line of the family.) (Note from the person giving this information:) I would be so grateful for information concerning any of these relatives and will be happy to share my records. The last record we find for Jacob and Esther HOLLAND is the 1860 census of Whitfield County, GA. We do not know if they died in Dalton or moved away with some of their children. Submitted by Nancy Holland Marble, Box 67, South Plains, TX 79258. You might try getting in touch with this party, the book I have was printed in 1988. But you might be lucky and they are still living there. Good Luck, Louise <ldens@baysat.net>

    1. Re: [MURRAY] HOLLAND & RUSSELL
    2. Shirley, Susan Holland Russell is said to be the sister of my great grandfather, John Holland who died ca 1861 or 62. John had brothers Jesse, James and Ephraim Holland. I have tried for years to learn what became of William and Hugh Russell. My grandfather, James Franklin Holland moved his family to Texas ca 1883. His two brothers, John and A.E."Gus" Holland died in Chattanooga, Tenn. After they died our Holland family seemed to lose all contact with the kin in Georgia and Tenn. Please write to me , nancymtx@aol.com. or Nancy Holland Marble, Box 67, South Plains, Texas 79258.

Joseph was b 1812 in Tenn; he & Susan had two sons: William Russell and H. Hugh Russell. I think they moved to Dalton, Whitfield Co. Hugh married Elvira Price and moved to Talladega Co, Ala. Elvira's parents went with them, I think, but don't know about Susan Holland Russell. This is the family of my husband Bill Ryan of Sanford, Fl. Thanks for any info! Shirley Cason Ryan
