    3. Hello, A good starting point would be Fitzhugh-Brundage's "Lynching in the New South" which has a list of Georgia lynchings derived from the Tuskegee Institute lists, I think. That should pinpoint which county the lynching took place and the date. I don't have my copy but a library should have one. Then go to the newspaper for that county to find the story. You should find a copy of the newspaper in the local county archive or at the Georgia Newspaper collection at UGA. As far as I understand it, there were no "official" lynchings in Georgia from 1926 to 1930, so that might help, but I know of at least one, in Toccoa, that isn't on the records, so if you don't find it in the official records don't give up. If you do find something, please let me know as I am very interested in the subject. 1. [MURRAY] Leonard Family
    2. My Line as far back as I have it is Francis Asbury Leonard born abt 1828 in Georgia Married Elizabeth? I Am from their son arvey Columbous Leonard who was born in Murray County, Georgia in 1851 I Have this family in the 1850 , 1860 & 1870 Murray County Census.  Other than that I Know nothing except my straight Line.  I Have no record of Harvey C. Leonard being with his son Andrew Jarett Leonard who was born 1881 in Little Rock Arkansas as were most of his brothers and sisters.  but by 1900 they were back in the area and all got married in Catoosa county at least 4 of Harvey's children. I am pretty sure that Francis is Kin to the other Leonards, John & Isaac and is proabably John's son. If anyone has any info on any of the Leonard Families in Murray County and where thry were in 1840 I Woyld Very Much appreciate it. Thank you, Ernie Nichols

    1. [MURRAY] John B. MCELRATH look up request
    2. JB
    3. I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to do a look-up for me. John B. McElrath, born in 1849 or 50 (I believe it was late 1849), was the son of James and Catherine McElrath. He was born and raised in Murray County, Ga. He is found on the 1850, 60, and 70 census. I am trying to find out if he is one of my ancestors. We know my ancestor as Byrd McElrath. He is found in Arkansas on the 1880 and 1900 census in Perry and Yell County. I know he was born in Georgia and his parents were born in North Carolina. What is was hoping someone could look up is anything that would give me John B. McElrath's middle name. Maybe a birth record or a marriage record, an obit, or anything. He died in Yell County, Arkansas in 1901. Anyway, I would appreciate it so much if someone could look up John B.'s middle name. Thanks, Jayme Berry

    3. Please excuse duplicate postings--but this message came as a warning from one of the State Lists we belong to... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FORWARDED MESSAGE Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. 1. [MURRAY] obituary lookup from 1862
    2. Lee Anne Center
    3. Can anyone tell me if there is a Murray Co. obituary for William Franklin Montgomery, who lived in Murray Co. GA, moved to Conway Co. AR, and died in the civil War Apr. 16, 1862 (could have been Apr. 6, 1862)? Although he lived in AR at the time of his death, an obituary might have been published in GA to let friends and relatives there know. Thanks, Lee Anne

    3. Hello, Earlier this week I had been looking through the 1850 census for Murray co., GA (looking for my James family that is supposed to have been in that area). I saw at least two Workman families in Spring Place, Murray co., GA. When I saw your posting I went and looked at the 1910 census. Unfortunatly I couldn't read the pages, but on the index...the only Workman family listed is in Murray co., GA. The head of household is Walter and he was 26 and born in TN. Hope this helps.
