    1. [MURRAY] DOBBS/BARKER Marriage
    2. Larry Wise
    3. I am trying to find the marriage record for Nancy DOBBS (1815-1881) and William BARKER (b.abt 1800 d 1860-1870) They were probably married in Cobb Co or a nearby GA Co between 1835-1842 but it could have been anywhere from 1828-1859 since I cannot be sure William BARKER was not married to someone else before Nancy DOBBS. I am certain the family lived in Cobb Co from 1860-1881 but I cannot find them in the 1850 census though I think they were in or near Cobb Co. Nancy DOBBS was born in GA (Cobb Co according to her grandchild) and William BARKER was born in Maine I understand the Cobb Co records burned in the Civil War, I am in hopes that other Northwest GA counties were able to preserve their records from before the War. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Larry Wise lwise2@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    3. I do not believe you will find things like this written up but you may. I remember as a child overhearing my parents talking of a lynching on the bridge in Dalton. They said a black man had raped a white woman and had been hanged from the bridge. This was probably 50 yrs ago. My mom was from Dalton and Springplace and dad from Calhoun. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert N Smith" <smithrn@juno.com> To: <GAMURRAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 17, 2003 1:00 PM Subject: Re: [MURRAY] mccamy > Hello, > > A good starting point would be Fitzhugh-Brundage's "Lynching in > the New South" which has a list of Georgia lynchings derived from the > Tuskegee Institute lists, I think. 3. Good morning to you All, I wanted to let you all know about a project going on in North Georgia that is very dear to my heart. The Prater's Mill Foundation is starting the genealogy section of their Southern Appalachian Folklife Center. The plans are for this to ultimately be a museum, research library and much, much more. We are in need of Family Group Sheets or even entire family trees for the families that settled in this area including those that lived here for a while and moved on. If you have extremely old photographs of your ancestors a copy of those included with your records would be great. As it grows, we foresee this genealogy collection to be a wonderful place to research your missing ancestors in this area. If you want to have your ancestors included in this collection, please mail your Family Tree info or Family Group Sheets to: Appalachian Folklife Genealogy % The Prater's Mill Foundation P. O. Box H Varnell, Georgia 30756 Join us in making this dream come true. Send in your family history today. Thank you all in advance for your help, Paula Franklin [Volunteer] http://pratersmill.org/

    2. Chatsworth is the county seat of Murray County, and is located on US Highway 411 about 15 miles south of the GA/TN state line. Whitfield County is directly to the West of Murray. The Murray/Whitfield county line is probably 7 or 8 miles west of Chatsworth.
