    3. Jayme I saw your query about your ancestors from Murray County. Did your Berry branch originate from that county? My wilson family left Murray Co. in the 1870's and settled in Bell Co., Texas. My great aunt Ella Mae Wilson b. 1890, married Andrew D. Berry. Their children included a son, Barnell and two daughters Dorothy and Wilma. Mae and Andrew are buried at the Moffat Cemetery in Bell Co. 3. Hi Junior, I didn't intend my McElrath messages to go through the list but I'm so happy they did and you responded. Maybe that's the Texas connection...Ellison. Here goes: Joel S. Stone's mother was Rachel Ellison Stone Buchannan. I found Rachel in the Whitfield Co. History that Larry Stone wrote. However I found her coming in to Murray a little later than Larry through a land deed and Joel's civil war papers show him born in TN. I believe Rachel lived in TN. until her husband James died then came over the line to Murray. My question is this: Who are the parents of Rebecca Ellison? 1. [MURRAY] Jerry Smith and Dulaney or Delaney
    2. Donna Streetenberger
    3. I am trying to locate my g-g-g grandfather, Jerry Smith and my g-g-g grandmother who was a Dulaney or Delaney. I got this information from my g-g grandfather, George Washington Smith's death certificate from Falls County, Texas. This information shows that George was born in Towns County, Georgia and his mother's first name is not listed, just the maiden name of Dulaney (or could be Delaney). There is a Mary L. Smith with her son, George Smith, in Shuck Pen, Murray County on the 1880 Census. It shows that she is a widow and would have been born around 1826. This George Smith's birth year, of 1864, is correct with what is found on the death certificate and his tombstone in Lott, Falls County, Texas. If anyone has any further information regarding this family, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Donna

    3. One more thing, if you haven't done this go to the Texas web site for confederate Pension records. If you find your names you can purchase for a small fee and it takes a few weeks to get them. I found these records are full of testimony of family members and friends back in GA. Texas also has a good marriage index for those years before 1900. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jlfieldc" <Jlfieldc@houston.rr.com> To: <GAMURRAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 12, 2003 11:44 PM Subject: Re: [MURRAY] McElreath > Judy, I was interested in your reply about the Stones and McElreaths. 3. Hi, A few years ago I found some helpful information on genforum and printed it. In addition I wrote to and got a lot from the courthouse in Cooke Co. I researched the Stones only to find out more about the Bowmans and Peppers. I did happen to get very lucky in Cooke Co. There is a lady named Margaret Clarke who is very active in the historical society and the public records office sent me a wealth of information. There used to be an online book called Know Your County. You need to check this out. Margaret could help you, I'm sure. Index to Early Days in Cooke Co. shows McElrath, Sam Page 76 Mc Elrath family Page 78 1924 R. A. McElrath 1926 1928 Duffy Family Bible S, J. McElrath was a witness McElreath...notice name change P. 27 Cooke Co. History Past and Present. This is what I know: The families of Murray and Whitfield came to Texas and some went to Commanche and Brown Co's and settled. The Stones and others stopped in Caddo Mills near Greenville, Tx. for a while and farmed eventually moving up to Marysville. A decendent of Sarah Bowman Stone, wife of Joel was still living near the family property. She was old and very ill and I didn't want to question her too much and tire her. We had several phone calls and she invited me to come and visit for a few days as she was very interested in my research. I did ask about McElreath because I found them on Joel Stone's will and she remembered them "visiting the house" She knew they were from Georgia. That's about all I remember. It was a few years ago and my interest was really only on the Bowman family. If any of this looks helpful you can find Margaret Clarke on genforum. 3. Thanks again. I guess I have a small mystery on my hands. See, I found them (James and Catherine and the boys) in 1850 in Murray County. I thought they were there in 1860 and 70, but I guess not. The census had James married to Catherine, but all of my other information says he was married to Candis Bright. I am trying to find out which one. Candis was older than Catherine (according to census information about Catherine). I don't know how to find out which girl he was married to - or if there was another James. But thanks for trying to locate the information anyway! Jayme Berry

    3. I noticed this name on the list messages and finally remembered that a J. L. and Emma Mclreath were witnesses on the will of Joel Stone in Cook Co. Texas around 1933. The Stone family left Dalton around 1885 for Texas with many Murray and Whitfield Co. residents. If these people interest you I can look further into records. Judy Bowman

    3. Junior, This helps tremendously! She wasn't born until October 1, 1862, so depending upon when the census was done, they may have put her birth year as 1863 (based on her age that was provided). She also married George Washington Smith in Georgia, so this matches up too. She wouldn't have shown up on the 1900 Census because she and George W. Smith moved to Texas in the late 1800's with my great-grandmother, Laura Zeora Smith. Laura was married (to Claude Warren Patterson) in Falls County Texas in 1905, so they were definitely already in Texas by that time. I really appreciate your help. Now, I am almost certain that this is my great-great grandmother, Alice Ann McLain Smith. Thank you!Donna Junior & Peggy McKay <jrmckay@ev1.net> wrote:Donna, hope this helps. Descendants of Thomas M. 3. I cannot find any of these people in the index. I looked at all James in this age bracked born in NC in case McElrath was spelled different, and nothing close came up. I looked for all McElrath's and only found 117. One was a James in Burke Co, NC, age 35, but had different wife and kids. 3. I am researching my g-g grandmother, Alice Ann McLain who was born in Georgia on October 1, 1862. Her father, as listed on her death certificate (from 1938 in Texas), is Tom McLain of Georgia. Her mother's name is not listed on the death certificate. She married George Washington Smith (who's father, Jerry Smith, was from Towns County, Georgia). They had my great-grandmother, Laura Zeora Smith June 3, 1886 also in Georgia. I am trying to determine if my Alice Ann McLain is the same person as "Anna" McLain who is found on the 1880 Census for Shuck Pen, Murray County, Georgia. The age is right and some of the siblings names on the 1880 Census are also found later on the 1920 Census for Alice Ann and her husband George's family, in Texas, which include their children's names, "Tom" and "Elisha"; however, I know that these were very common names at the time. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it! Thank you! Donna
