Jones who married Sarah Jane Marable in Morgan Co. on 14 Nov 1842 . Various records show his first name as Benagy, Benager, Benajah, and Berry. She lived in Morgan Co in 1840 census in home of her father Champion Christopher Marable and wife Mary Moremon. I expect Mr. Jones is also there, but not sure of his father's name. They are living in Newton Co by 1850 census. Any clues as to parents and history of Benagy A. Jones would be greatly appreciated.

I would look for a Benjamin JONES because Benajah was kind of a nick name for Benjamin. BERRY is also a possibility because they were around in that time frame and it was a given name in a few families. Some of the differences in the spelling of his name that you note may be due to transcription errors because a lot of the persons who transcribe these various civil documents do not know these families and "wing it" on a lot of the given names and surnames in them. My suggestion is go back to the original document they reference and see what it says for yourself and do not ever take what someone else says about a certain document as gospel....... John R.
