Olivia, Yes, I knew about the marriage to Julia Smith SAFFOLD -- I just did not look under him to see if there was another marriage. He had three kids by her -- Julia Smith Heard FOSTER born ABT 1840, Cynthia FOSTER in 1841 and Greene Saffold FOSTER in 1848. I do not know what happened to them.. NGF and AHS were married on 12 Jul 1838 in Morgan County, GA. AHS died 29 Jul 1848 and he married Margaret E. VINSON girl on 12 Jul 1849 at Gen. Tully Vinson's residence, Sparta, Hancock Co., Georgia - not quite a year but a respectable period of time. <grin> Is that what you have? I have 19 Oct 1869 for Nathaniel Greene FOSTER's death and that is off his tombstone in the Madison City Cemetery, as I remember. It is also confirmed in the Madison Mortuary List. Where did you get the 1879 date? I had it wrong. Hannah JOHNSON was Arthur FOSTER Jr's second wife. His first wife was Elizabeth GLENN whom Arthur FOSTER, Jr. married ABT 1787 in Greene County, GA. The GLENN girl was the mother of Arthur Thomas FOSTER born ABT 1809. He married Hannah JOHNSON ABT 1809 and she might even be the mother of NGF because he was born 1809. I do not know for sure but I carry Hannah as his and AGF's mother. I also have 1840 for Arthur's death in Greene County, GA but somebody could have transposed the 6 to a 0. This information is from someone else. I have the parents of Margaret E. VINSON's parents to be Gen. Tully VINSON and Amazon N. GONDER of probably Sparta, Hancock County, GA.
