I wonder if the witness to this deed was Thomas B. LAWSON and not LAWTON? The LAWSON family is near this bunch in Putnam and the name, Thomas LAWSON was confirmed in the testament to this deed. This Thomas was probably Thomas Banks LAWSON who was born 1773 in Halifax County, VA and died in 1842 in Hancock County, GA according to my information. He was the son of William LAWSON and Jane BANKS. Jane was the d/o Thomas BANKS and Mary DAVIS of Bedford County, VA. Thomas was a brother of Ralph BANKS whose family ties into the ALSTON, JONES bunch of Elbert County, GA. I also know that John B. GHENT married Martha STOKES, d/o Young STOKES (1773-1843) and Martha Lamar WALKER of the STOKES Family of Madison, Morgan County, GA, so it looks like the same bunch. Martha was the d/o Rev. Sanders WALKER and Sarah LAMAR of Wilkes County, GA. Her sister, Elizabeth WALKER (1786-1819), married the Hon. Wilson LUMPKIN of Morgan County, GA as his first wife. John R.
