Lois, You might want to know -- nobody was born in Greene County, GA in 1760. Georgia, except for the few who lived on the coast, Savannah south to the Darien area, and maybe as far north as Augusta on the Savannah River, was just a glimmer in someone's eye. I do not know where your ancestor was born but it was not in Greene County, GA in 1760. The reason being was -- that was Indian land and they did not like to see interlopers in their private domain. I am sure there were a few traders who ventured into Indian country but whether they got out wearing their hair was another story. This would not really change for another 30 or so years after 1760 and continued to be problems in the area you mention well into the 1810's. So my suggestion is to find where your boy was really born and what families followed him into Greene County, GA. I have one records of a FEARS boy born ABT 1780 who married a PORTER in Greene County, GA and assuming they were from the same location, I would check Prince Edward County, VA area for your boy, if I were you. There were an awful lot of PE County, VA folks in Greene County, GA in later years....... John R. He was born c. 1760, Greene Co. Ga. Died bef. July 1826. He was the son of Enoch and Amey (Rush) Stringfellow. His daughter Alice "Alsey" marr. Ezekiel Fears. The only info on Benjamin that I have found came from from others. His wife is listed only as Elizabeth. His brother Henry, b.c. 1777, m. 11 Jan. 1797 "Polly" Moore. This seems to be the same family. I would be interested in more information on the Moore family, as I feel now that he was married to Elizabeth Moore. Please e-mail me directly as I do not get on the internet very often.Lois > > > ==== GAMORGAN Mailing List ==== > Don't forget to change the Subject line of your message when you change the subject of a reply message. > >
Dear Lois, There are pages and pages of Moores listed in "History of Greene County Georgia" by Rice & Williams. I do not have time to look at them all but I did find an "Elizabeth who married Amassa R. Moore, brother of the famous Methodist minister, Mark W. Moore, and moved to Harris County Georgia and thence to Calhoun County, Mississippi." This was on page 296 under Thomas Grier (Greer). (This was the Greir/Greer family of The Old Farmer's Almanac fame.) Amy Stringfellow and others are also in this book. "History of Greene County" by Rice & Williams can be ordered from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. Hope this helps, Estelle Cromer ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R.
