Estelle, One small error in all that. <grin> The Elizabeth JOHNSON (1794-1848) you list as the wife of Dr. Elijah JONES (1795-1876) was not a JOHNSON but a JOHNSTON. Morgan County folks just love to shorten JOHNSTON to JOHNSON but it was JOHNSTON. Can you guess who her parents were, now? <grin> They were - Dr. Lancelot JOHNSTON I, MD (ABT 1748-1832) and Zeriah RICE of Caswell County, NC. Her brother, Lancelot JOHNSTON II, Esq. of Snow Hill in Madison married Margaret JONES (ABT 1794-AFT 1850) and what do you want to bet she is not out of the Dr. Elijah JONES family, somewhere. Elizabeth and Dr. JONES also had a daughter, Mary Jane JONES (1825-1863), who married George Asper REID who is probably connected to that REID bunch down in Putnam County that ties all over these early Madison families. According to my notes, Dr. JONES was from Amelia County, VA and the JOHNSTONS were from Fermanagh County, IRELAND. This EVANS family of Morgan County, GA really interests me. There was a Dr. EVANS of what later became Harwell's District who left Morgan County, GA and moved to Aberdeen, MS ABT 1840. I believe he was a Dr. William EVANS and he sold his land to that big Methodist, Peter Wyche WALTON. Anyway, I have a Col. Daniel Jones EVANS RS-GA (ABT 1758-1821) of Burke County, GA who married a Mary "Polly" JONES and they are all over my DANIEL bunch in and around Burke and Jefferson County, GA, who were also predominantly Methodist. The grand daughter of this Robert C. DANIEL (ABT 1765-AFT 1830) family of Burke County, Alice Elizabeth DANIEL (1854-1924) married John Clarke RICHTER, Sr. of Madison in 1872 and her 1924 obit, written by close family friend, William Thomas BACON, says Alice descended from one of the "founding families of Morgan County, GA" and "Old WT" (1869-1944) knew his families and this one, especially, since his brother was married to a RICHTER descendant. I have to believe the Col. Daniel EVANS family of Richmond/Burke/Jefferson was probably related to the Dr. EVANS family of Morgan and they were probably also tied to this same JONES family. Also, John Byne WALKER's parents were living close to Robert C. DANIEL in Burke in 1820 which makes me think this whole bunch was probably collateral. Hephzibah, GA, then called Brothersville, could have just as easily been named, Jonesville because there were so many JONES around there, early. And some of these DANIELS went to church in Brothersville at the ME Church. The 1846 obit of Penelope DANIEL, widow of Robert of Burke, was submitted to the Southern Christian Advocate by this same Methodist church. Some say Penelope (1773-1846) was a LANE. Any thoughts...... John R.
