Payne, I understand what you mean. My bet, after looking at these folks is -- John was probably related to the DANIEL bunch tied to either the BURNEYS, COLEMANS or the CUNNINHAMS. This was the bunch that was close to him, physically. Notice the FANNING or FANNIN line connected to this bunch. The FANNIN family was a big Morgan County, GA family tied to the SAFFOLDS, WALKERS and others of that area. The BURNEYS were also a big Morgan County, GA family. The COLEMANS and CUNNIGHAMS were also tied to many of this same bunch -- I just cannot separate them all with the information I have, now. One avenues I am looking at for my DANIEL bunch is the LANE family. According to my friend, Gary LANE, of the Atlanta area, "big ears" are a real trait of the LANE family and the LANES do meet the profile of my bunch. This seems to match up with the LANE information mentioned by the VALLOTTON Family of Burke and Jefferson County as the name of my 2nd GGM, Penelope LANE, wife of Robert C. DANIEL or DANIELL of Burke County, GA. We have her life span as 1773-1846 and the LANE family of NC was all over this area of GA. If they are descended from the LANE Family, this would seem to put them in the Thomas DANIEL and Elizabeth LANIER family, somewhere. I also know the WHITFIELD family was also one of the first families of Morgan County, GA so this would seem to match, too. I just do not know where my Robert or this John DANIEL were from but they do match the age profile to be from the same family. I will also bet that Arvilla FANNING who married one of his sons was also out of the James H. FANNIN RS-VA (1739-1803) family of Morgan County, GA, somewhere. FANNIN was married to Georgia Elizabeth SAFFOLD. The FANNIN family was originally from Stonington, New London, Connecticut but moved to Effingham County, GA and then to Greene and later Morgan County, GA but James was born in VA, somewhere. Maybe someone can pick up some family connections from the families tied to the children of James H. FANNIN. His children married into the MAPP, ALLISON, PIERCE, MARTIN, LOW, PORTER and WRIGHT Families. The PORTERS were also tied to the WADES, SAFFOLDS and probably the HEARDS since all of these families were very close. As you may note, the PORTERS were also tied to the CUNNINGHAM-DANIEL bunch of Greene County, GA, too. RE: Renzin PORTER married Margaret DANIEL, d/o James DANIEL (1743-BEF 1830) and Sarah CUNNINGHAM of Amelia and later Prince Edward County, VA. This was part of the same bunch that came through Granville County, NC. This is part of the CUNNHHAM-DANIEL line out of Greene County, GA....Interesting..... I think you may find these Greene County, GA DANIELS are probably related to many of the same families - the HARRIS', CRAWFORDS, ARNOLDS, CALLOWAYS, WINGFIELDS, BURNEYS, TERRELL, WADES, HEARDS, STOKES, etc. The STOKES were originally from Lunenburg Co, Virginia area. The WINGFIELDS were originally from Louisa and New Kent County, VA. The CALLAWAYS/CALLOWAYS were originally from Somerset County, MD The WADES were originally from Hallifax County, VA. This is the bunch that is tied to the CLEMENTS and Grizelle names, as well as the HAMPTONS. My bet is the James DANIEL who married to the Grizelle CLEMENTS is in some way related to this Halifax County, VA family. This bunch is also tied to the STOKES family. The WINGFIELDS are another key family in this area. Thomas WINGFIELD II (1693-1785) married Sarah GARLAND and I know your familiarity with this name. The GARLANDS are also tied to the CARR family of Charleston which was originally from VA tied up with the JEFFERSONS and not through the Sallie HENNING line, either. <grin> I know this WINGFIELD line came first to Wilkes and later Greene and Morgan County, GA. I know this bunch was also tied to the TERRELLS, NELSONS and COLBERTS - other Morgan County, GA names. The TERRELLS were also out of Hanover County, VA and they tie in with the OXFORDS. Remember, Oxford is the name of the primary location of the Methodist Church in GA. It is located in Newton County, GA right next to Morgan County. We also know the Allen DANIEL bunch of Madison County, GA were primarily Methodist. I know my bunch was partly Methodist and partly Baptist. I also know that Ruth has many of the same names in the probate of that 1840 will of Beverly DANIEL over in AL that I see in Morgan County, GA, as well as names tied to the 1762 John DANIEL you mentioned in your message. I also know Beverly has the name, Chesley, in his family and so do I. We are missing a couple of pieces of critical information and I do not know what it is. The problem is some of these very early DANIEL assignments are not right and I am getting conflicting information about this bunch. The son of Woodson, John, was connected with his brothers to Rowan County, and it is unlikely that he would travel all the way back from Georgia to administer the will of Woodson in 1791. We have deed records to support the Rowan connection for John and James and David. It is probable that the James Daniel of Rowan is the son of Woodson and, this son, is not the James Daniel who married Grissel Clements. Why, because that James was the son of the brother of Woodson? We won't go to that scenario as of yet? Obviously, John Daniel of Elbert dates himself and places his date of birth in Wake County as 1762, even though Wake was not Wake until 1771. He is a viable, living, Daniel with scuds of records, but no actual connection to Woodson Daniel and the Halifax/Rowan connections. There is no early documentation that his name was John Osborn Daniel and his dates would not place him as a member of the family of John Osborn Daniel of Georgia. It is also likely that John Daniel of Wake was married to Mary Rogers and there are collateral connections between the Rogers, Micajah Ferrell (bondsman), and the Woodson Daniel family. I also believe that John married Jane Gibson in 1784. There are Wake County marriage records to support the fact that a John Daniel married both gals. The interesting part of this is that those marriage bond records are in the Georgia Archives? [That rightly leaves old John of Elbert with one wife, Margaret Means. [He continued to live in NC for about an additional 8 years after the Revolution and then moved to Elbert County, GA. He was approved for a pension on January 22, 1833, for $200.00 per years - certificate 6051. He was living in Elbert County, GA at that time]. So he did live in North Carolina and that promotes another question, who was his daddy? According to the research of Charles R. Holloman of Raleigh, NC, John was the son of Ambrose Daniel of Halifax Co., NC. It has been speculated that Ambrose was living in or near current day Wake County in 1762 and that is speculation. It WAS my opinion that John was not the son of Ambrose until we found evidence that he was not the son of Woodson. He was not the son of John O. Daniel or the brother of Allen Daniel so we can eliminate that probability. Unfortunately the dating of the issue of Ambrose Daniel’s children depends on whose research you use. The Crooke family records (Wylie and Chloe Daniel Crooke) are the dates I currently use. It would not be rash to say that John was the eldest son of Ambrose and Sarah Daniel and that he would not be listed in the will of Ambrose Daniel in 1795 because he was self sufficient? Ambrose was the first of my family to own land in the Jacket Swamp area of Halifax Co., in 1792, which may have given him some time to have live temporarily in what is now Wake County, or about 1785-86. Sion Daniel, the son of Ambrose, ran away from school in Wake County in 1786 to join the Army. Mike, Jack and I believe that it is unlikely that John Daniel of Wake/Elbert was the son of Woodson. These fellows can speak for themselves, but that is the impression I get from their messages. It is the opinion of both Mike and I that James Daniel of Rowan was the son of Woodson Daniel and that would dislodge the James who married Grissel Clements. That, the unproven link, could mean that James and Grissel could be in the family of James who was the brother of Woodson, or a contemporary James we haven’t found yet?
