Good Morning, I just got some interesting information from a DURDEN researcher who researches the Stephen DURDEN family of Morgan County, GA. A Prudence DANIEL, who this researcher thinks was a daughter of Stephen DURDEN, deeded land in 1839 that she owned in Morgan County, GA to her brother, Stephen I. DURDEN. This Prudence DANIEL was then living in Russell County, AL and this was after the death of their father, Stephen DURDEN. >From these deeds we know that Stephen DURDEN's wife was named, Mary LNU. Other names listed in these 1839 deeds were: William ALLEN & Wm W. JONES, who were witnesses to the deed signed by Prudence DANIEL and a Michael and Ann MOONEY. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA

She was illiterate, so I suppose it was up to the census taker to figure out how to spell her name. An online family tree by Victor HAWK says she was born in Scotland, but census records indicate Georgia. Perhaps her parents were from Scotland. Izet and John STUDDARD's children were: 2 girls names unknown, Henry James, Vincent, Martha A., Mary, Minerva, John F., and Milton.
I have some old books on Swords. If you would like me to look them up I will. Jamie

Hi Bobby Thanks for your reply. Perhaps the families were friends and my father was named after your family. If you run across the NICHOLSON name in your research, please let me know. Hi, My Dad (Hugh F. Hanson, 1918) had an Uncle Henry Hanson. He was from the Morgan county area. My dad was from Rehobeth, near Bostick and Andersons Crossroads. I seem to remember Uncle Henry living between Athens and Gainesville. Seems like it was Hog Mountain, or Hog something. Probably closer to Gainesville than Athens. We had Smiths, Cravens, Adams', but I cannot remember any Nicholsons. My GGGrandfather had 9 kids with first wife, and 7 kids with second wife. Most of them were females. I think only five boys. One of them got killed in the civil war. That is all I know right now. I have not been able to work on my stuff for over a year and a half. I moved back to Florida, then I went back to school. Donnie, Yes, I have read about this DANIEL before. Your Joseph DANIEL was born about 1870, almost twenty years after my William Russell DANIEL (1853-1904), son of R. W. DANIEL of Bethany, Jefferson County, GA and brother of Alice Elizabeth DANIEL (1854-1924), Mrs. John C. RICHTER, Sr. of Reese Community, Morgan County, GA. There is also a William Russell DANIEL out of the DANIELL family of Bogart, Oconee County, GA. I just guess that Russell was a pretty popular middle name. The Russell in my William's name came from his grandfather, Methodist minister and Presiding Elder in the GA Conference, Rev. Russell RENEAU. Alice and John also used it as the first name of their second son, Russell Daniel RICHTER (1883-1944), my uncle, who married Burma ADAMS (1886-1971), d/o of George and Elizabeth ADAMS of Harwell Community, Morgan County, GA. Your DANIEL bunch was related to the George Washington DANIEL bunch in Madison, weren't they? John R. I think he came from Robert Hinson/Hanson of Va. may have had brothers James, Jesse, and one other in Morgan/Oconee/Clarke counties. Also, there was a Samuel Hanson that died around 1820, probably in Morgan county. John (my ggg) took custody of his children according to records in Morgan county. They lived north of madison, but I am not sure where. Look for Radfords, and Watkins. They seemed to travel with my Hansons thru that area. Bobby
Nellie Ruark married William Russell Daniel, son of Joseph Daniel of Fairplay, Georgia. In 1925 Joseph ( who was my Dad's Uncle Joe ) and family moved to Shelby, NC and twins Lena and Lizzie graduated from a Shelby School in 1928 and in the Year Book they were listed as the 'Georgia Peaches' from Bostwick, Georgia. Joseph Daniel Obituary >From the Shelby Star, Shelby NC 10/11/1939 Death Strikes Man,Wife Here Within 30 Minutes. Joseph E. Daniel Passes Suddenly At Home Here; Wife Dies From Shock Thirty Minutes Later. Thirty minutes after Joseph E. Daniel, 70, died suddenly at his home at 206 McBrayer street at 9 o'clock Tuesday night, his 72-year-old widow dropped dead from shock while talking with members of the family. Shortly after Mr. Daniel had retired for the night, Mrs. Daniel discovered him dead in his bed and summoned members of the family who were away from home at the time. Thirty minutes later, when she was telling her children of their father's sudden passing , she fell dead after she said she could not live without her husband. Mr. Daniel had been in ill health during the last eight months, but his condition was not considered serious and he had been downtown as usual during the day. Funeral Thursday The funeral was set for 2:30 on Thursday afternoon at the home with the Rev. R.M. Courtney, paster of Central Methodist Church, conducting, assisted by the Rev. W.A. Elam, of the Dover Mill Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel came to Shelby from Madison, Ga., where Mr. Daniel was a prominent farmer, about 15 years ago. He had been connected with the Thompson Lumber company here until his retirement a few years ago. The well-known couple, members of the Methodist Church, had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Surviving are four sons, Russ Daniel of Bostwick, Ga., Dan Daniel of Shelby, Romayne Daniel of Rutledge, Ga., and Melvin Daniel of Atlanta, Ga.; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond Harris and Misses Cleo, Nancy, Peggy and Lena Daniel, all of Shelby; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Both are survived by several brothers and sisters in Georgia.
