    2. Harold W.Cochran.
    3. COCKRAM [COCHRAN] JAMES b: 1785 in Va. married Ann Campbell b: 1793 in NC on May 29, 1816 in Morgan Co, Ga. Although James Cockram married in Morgan Co. it is believed that he lived elsewhere prior to 1816 and left Morgan after his father's estate was settled. It is believed that James was the oldest son and possibly still lived in South Carolina, the previous home of his father Benjamin Cockram (Cockerham). Benjamin's daughter (and James Cockram's sister) Frances Cockram married Samuel Paschall, Jr, in Abbeville, South Carolina in the year 1799. If any of the above makes a connection please contact Harold Cochran [email protected]

    1. [GAMORGAN-L] GAAR, HEAD and KENDRICK, early 1800's
    2. Stuart & Kim
    3. I am a descendant of Joel GAAR, b: 1783 in Elbert Co, GA; d: about 1824 in Morgan Co, GA. I have been thinking that I was descended from his wife Lucy HEAD. However, I've just run across a marriage record of a Joel GAAR and Catherine KENDRICK m. 1816 and I don't know how this fits in. If someone out there has worked on these lines, would you please contact me. I'm trying to determine if perhaps these are two different Joel GAARs or if my info on Lucy Head is incorrect. Thanks Kim Owen Chance [email protected] Arlington, Texas

    1. [GAMORGAN-L] Heath surname ca 1800-1840
    2. Hello, Recently got a clue about my Heath family. Does anyone have county records that might have a Heath family in early 1800's? Specifically looking for Mary Ann (Zema) Heath b. GA 1825, but any Heaths at that time might help me locate her...and her missing family! Any help appreciated! Cyndi

    2. Hi Jean, Well, I'm happy for you! Wish I were having as much luck! Do any of your Cowans list Elijah Cowan born 1800? He's a mystery but seems to have gone south as well. His daughter (Nancy Catherine Cowan) was born in GA in 1835, and they seem to have landed in Ouachita Parish, LA by 1854. Nancy married Joseph Saddler Rutledge in Ouachita. Would love to find these 2... Any help appreciated! Cyndi in Baltimore

    1. [GAMORGAN-L] Collins, Joseph.
    2. Harold W.Cochran.
    3. Hi Rooters, Is there any help on the following Collins family? Joseph Collins, Sr. was born 5-15-1739 in Rowan Co,NC; enlisted in the Revolution in Wilkes Co, GA; lived in Morgan Co: applied for a Revolutionary War Pension 8-27-1833 in Upson Co, GA; and died 8-25-1838 in Upson Co. He had no widow, but the Pension File named children living in 1853: Joseph born about 1803, Enoch, Thomas, and Nancy who married Benjamin Cochran Joseph drew land in the 1820 Lottery; he drew land in Gwinnett Co 1-26-1824 and Irwin Co 9-4-1827. Sarah Matilda Colllins, wife of Banister Cochran, was dead in 1853 and is not identified as a daughter. Benjamin and Banister Cochran were brothers and probably married sisters, however no document has been found that confirms that Joseph was Sarah Collins' father. No evidence of a will in Morgan or Upson Co, through Upson Co probate records. Harold Cochran [email protected]

    1. Walter HALDEMAN
    2. David Sencer
    3. According to the Kentucky Encyclopedia Walter Haldeman had been editor of the Louisville Courier before the War Between the States changed his allegiance to the Confederacy and had to leave the state. He settled in Madison, GA according to the Encyclopedia. According to family records, a Col. William Logan Clarke and his wife were with Haldeman when their son was born and he was named Walter Haldeman Clarke. There are discrepancies. The family records state that he was born in Haldeman's Army home in Warrenton, but the Encyclopedia makes no mention of military service. His obituary in the Louisville Courier- Journal likewise is silent on that point, although the obituary ran to several columns (he was publisher at the time of his death in 1902). Does this ring any bells? Thanks. Dave Sencer Atlanta, GA [email protected]

Carolyn Woodyard is the motel representative who is assisting on this so if you need to contact anyone at Motel then she will be the one. We wanted to be in LaGrange, GA. this year so we could have a tour on Friday to visit NANCY PASCHALL DINGLER's grave site, where the monument will be placed. December 1837 We cleared this through the Historical Society of Franklin, GA. and those interested in Old Whatley Cemetery, near Glenn, GA. so the stone may be placed there. Monuments are provided for Rev. War Veterans but not to their widows. To get to the Motel coming fron west on I-20 take Exit 3 in Georgia then take Hwy 27 S to LaGrange or from other directions take I 85 and take La Grange Exit.

    1. Butts Surname in Morgan County
    2. This is my first experience with the Morgan County group of researchers. I hope you can be some help to me. My husband's great grandfather was Millard F. Butts. He was born in Madison in July of 1859. By the 1900 Census he had moved with his wife and children to Milledgeville. He was the overseer of the McMillan Brickyard. I believe that Mr. McMillan orginally started his business in Madison and then later moved it to the Milledgeville area. Millard was married to Callie Holman sometime around the year 1875. I would like to know more about Millard--who were his parents and siblings. I would also like to know more about research facilities in Morgan County (I live in Augusta, about an hour away). I have not been there but once and we only drove through the town of Madison. Anything others can share with me would be a great help. Pat Colbert [email protected]

    2. The family that I am looking for are the Martins from Morgan County. John Wesley Martin born in 1811. His son John Graves Martin is my great great grandfather. Another question that I have for this list is regarding pictures. I have some photocopies of pictures taken of the Martins in the 1850-1900 time frame. Is there a historical society in Madison, Morgan County that would have the glass plate things that they used to take pictures back then? How would I find out about these? Thanks, Denise [email protected]
