I am a decendant of Jefferson Burgay bn 1829 Monroe co Ga. In 1850 he married Martha Ponder bn in Monroe also. They had one son John Merril Burgay. They separated for some reason, I have heard several stories. In 1858 Martha moved to Natchitoches Parish La. Here her brother was an overseer. She married Americus V. Carter there in 1858, I suspect that he was from Monroe co. also but dont know for sure. Jefferson Burgay is found in Jacksonville Fla. in the 1860 census working as a carpenter and living with his mothers relatives the Green family. Then on Oct 16 1866 he was found marrying a Mary Felicia Pulley in Halifax NC. This is the last I have located him. Jeffersons parents were John and Phoebe Burgay, born and raised in Jones county Ga. I was wondering if Martha is one of the children listed in the Ponder Bible there on the Monroe county page. If anyone knows any of these names or can help me I would appreciate it much.
