Hi, I need a little help with a stonewall. I am trying to determine the ancestry of Martha Bowden who married Matthew Maddox 24 Dec 1835 in Monroe County, GA. My problem is that there appears to be a second Martha Bowden who also married a man named Champion (I don't have his first name readily available) in Monroe County in 1835. I have an ancestry for a Martha Bowden that indicates she was born in 1815 to William and Martha (Smith) Bowden. However, in corresponding with others I have been convinced that William and Martha are the parents of the Martha who married into the Champion family. So who is this other Martha? I show Matthew Maddox as the son of Samuel and Patsy Maddox, and they came from NC to GA. The Bowden line I've traced also comes from NC. Matthew and Martha Maddox migrated to AL. Does anyone recognize this family? I'm also traveling to Atlanta for the holidays, and I'm interested in visiting Monroe County to do some research. In the past, I've found things shut down during the week between Christmas and New Years. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to do some research on this family during the holidays? What are the best places? Where are they? Are they open during the holidays? I would certainly appreciate any advice anyone might have to offer, and would encourage you to contact me privately regarding research resources in Monroe County. Thanks, Gordon
