I have been told that Anderson Lamar Colvard was a prominent african-american in the 20th century who was born in Monroe County, Ga. He was born 1844 and I believe died in 1927. He was the first to county votes in some county in Ga and was one of the first "colored" to be able to buy their marriage licenses. He is a distant ancestor of mine and I am interested in his family history. His wife's name was Tabitha Shannon. The had 13 children. He was a deacon.
