Hello to all Monroe County, Georgia researchers! I have just finally finished "revamping" our Monroe County website. There haven't been a whole lot of additions, but I have reorganized things a bit to (hopefully) make things a little easier to find (in my own mind, anyway! <g>). For those of you used to Carol's system of doing things, I'll just apologize now :-), since I have moved things around quite a bit. Check out the new major links on the front page, as well as the other links. I'm hoping this will allow us to expand considerably in the future without too much maintenance required. I also just want to get you all drooling, since my mother, Jan Crews, has completed extracting the 1850 Monroe Co. census, and hopefully I'll be able to get to the proofing here real soon. Then it will be up on the site as well. Her next project will most likely be 1870 Monroe. After I finish another county I'm extracting, I will then take a stab at transcribing the slave schedules for at least 1850 and 1860 in Monroe Co. Good luck in all your research! Happy hunting! Mary Kathryn Monroe Co., Georgia CC P.S. - If there are some links that don't work anymore, please let me know. One of the things I have not had a chance to do is check some of the old links (especially in the Georgia Resources area) to make sure they are still working. There are a good number of them and I need to double-check. Also, if you know of any other great resources that aren't on the site, please send me the URL! I'd be grateful! Now I must be having a very BLONDE day. Thought I had joined the mail list, but thanks to you I just did. I have a Gideon T. Johnson as his son, is this Thomas? I am just starting to search this line, and wish I was down in Georgia right now instead of Washington state! Would appreciate any info you are willing to share. By the way I am the county coordinator & list maintainer for Peach and Greene counties as well as the SC-Genealogy-L list maintainer if you ever need anything. James L. Anderson was stabbed to death on Jan 9, 1834 in Forsyth, GA. The Georgia Geneological Magazine, Issues 27-30, 1968, page 1872 states that he was the son of William E. Anderson of Monroe Co., GA. "He leaves a small family. He had come to town to vote on Monday the 6th in the election for county officers, and was stabbed three times with a dirk in the hands of a drunken wretch named Lewis who was trying to stab another man." I need any info on this James L. Anderson or his father, William E. Anderson. I am looking for the parents and wife of Timothy Smith Anderson, born about 1815 in GA. Bill.

Let me try to reiterate what I have gleaned out of prior efforts on this list and on the recent roll call, cemetery search, etc. Thanks (in public this time) to Jimmy Webb and Jane Newton! My ggf, Henry Gaither BEAN (9/7/1842-3/24/1880), is buried in Forsyth City Cemetery as are his mother, Mary OWEN Bean (either 5/24/1817 or 1819 - 9/17/1878) and his mother-in-law, Emily Caroline SNEED DYSON (either 6/12/1817 or 1819 - 7/9/1881). Apparently both of these women lied about their age so much that the lies are set in stone! The grave of Henry's father, Dr. Addison Bean, probably one of the first (by 1842) physicians in Monroe county, is still yet to be found (he died 1854). Also buried in Forsyth Cemetery are Emily's half-brother, his widow, and (apparently) progeny: Dr. (William) Archibald H. Sneed born Oct. ll, l829 died Mar. l7, l889 Maria Louisa Barnes, wife of Dr. A. H. Sneed Aug. l2, l838 - Jan 9, l9l4 Anne Sneed Rowland May l8, l878 Mar l3, l955 Franklin E. Rowland July 8, l874 Aug l, l937 Daniel Latham Sneed Aug l9, l867 Sept l5, l923 Marie Louise Bradbury, wife of Lawrence Sneed April 28, l877 Dec. 5, l896 Mary Caroline Sneed Nov ll, l854 May 2, l930 Wm Raiford Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Sneed Feb l, l9l6 Jan l5, l9l7 There are also some Mays people in the cemetery, but I don't know yet if they are related to Frank O. Mayes and his wife Ada BEAN (married @ Forsyth 22 Oct 1868). I would like to connect with anyone researching the same surnames as I. I am more than willing to share information. Daniel Godard (1793-1877)was born in Martin County, NC, moved to Jones County, GA as a child/young man, served in the War of 1812 out of Ft. Hawkins in Jones County and then moved to Monroe County, GA shortly after his marriage in Jones County, GA to Elizabeth Rogers in 1819. He was a Union Primitive Baptist Church preacher along with his cousin, Joseph Godard. Daniel's father was Frederick Godard (born circa 1768 in NC and died in Jones County, GA in 1837). Siblings of Daniel were: James Godard, Simon Godard and Joel Godard. Children of Daniel Godard and Elizabeth Rogers were: Henry Godard, Franklin Godard, Frederick R. Godard and Malinda Ardecia Godard. I have some info. that I have collected from NARA and the GA Archives on this line and would be most happy to share and exchange information. Mary Goddard
I have sent this info many times with no success. I am making this request again. My gg-grandfather Russell Ross was born in 1834 in GA. I believe in Monroe Co. His father was Robert Ross born 1810 in N.C. His mother was Elizabeth born in GA in 1812. In 1850 census the family was living in Monroe Co. GA. showing William born 1831, Russell 1836 (but is 1834) , Harriett born 1838 and Lucinda born 1843. Russell married wife # 1 Elizabeth Pounds abt. 1852/53. Probably Monroe Co. They had 2 sons, John W Ross born 1854 and Sidney born 1858. Russell married wife # 2 Mary Ann Amanda Powell in Pike Co. GA. 27 Jan 1863 in PIke Co. GA. To this marriage were, Augustus Clayton, Charlie Warren, Martin Luther, James Robert, Mary Jane, George Wesley and Clara Lucille. I have alot of information except on wife # 1. If anyone can help me with info on Elizabeth Pounds I would so appreciate it. I live in northern California so I do not have opportunity to go to places that might have this informationl. I have sent request to different court houses and no success. It seems difficult to get help. Thanks to anyone that might can help me. I am willing to share what info that I have. We have nothing about my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth except what is on the 1860 Monroe Co. GA census. Sandy Butcher California
