    1. [GAMONROE] WILSON/WHEELER Query
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. I know that Allen H. Wilson m Susan Wheeler Nov 21, 1850 in Monroe Co.,Ga. I'm perplexed because on the 1850 census I find Allen Wilson listed twice once as a tenant with Charles WILSON as 24yrs old and also with Robert Winn family as 22 yrs old. I would appreciate any insight with this dilemma. In regards to the Wheeler family I would like to know who her family was.I believe that they had one child that they named James P. b abt 1851. They either divorced or she died because Allen remarried in Coweta Co., Ga..

    2. I am asking again for this info in hopes that someone, somewhere will read it and be able to hlep me. My gg-grandfather Russell Ross and wife Elizabeth were living in Monroe Co. GA on the 1860 Census Redbone Dist. It gives this info: Russell born 1834 in GA grist mill keeper Elizabeth born 1838 in GA John W born 1854 in GA ( my g-grandfather) Sidney born 1858 in GA Elizabeth Varner born in GA 1700's? I have been told that Elizabeths last name was Pounds but have not found anything to back that up. Russell remarried in 1863. What I want to find out is was Elizabeth's last name Pounds and what happened to her and Sidney after 1860? Thank you, Sandy Ross Butcher in Calif.

    1. [GAMONROE] Green English
    2. Ginny English
    3. Hello all, and thanks for the greetings Jennifer - I'm searching for the link that connects my Leonard English to the Green English family of Monroe county . . .William W. English was the son of Green English. He married Lavinia Donalson. They are shown in the 1860 Monroe County GA census as follows: William W. English 3 1021 990 English W W 41 M Miller 3,000 Geo 4 1021 990 English Leavinia 37 F Geo 5 1021 990 English John 15 M Geo 6 1021 990 English James 13 M Geo X 7 1021 990 English Leonard 10 M Geo X 8 1021 990 English C J 10 M Geo 9 1021 990 English Newton 8 M Geo 10 1021 990 English Marion 8 M Geo 11 1021 990 English Thomas 5 M Geo You will see Leonard English as child 7 above. Now, the hard part is verifying that this is our Leonard. Family records indicate that Leonard was born in Georgia, but the county is not mentioned. HIs son, John Milton English was born in 1876 in Columbus, Georgia, and died in 1958 in Lamar County, Mississippi (buried also in the Shows Cemetery in Jones County). This is where I'm trying to make the connection. Our Leonard was b. in 1850 and married Nancy Benton also b. in 1850. Leonard and Nancy are buried in the Shows Cemetery in Jones County, MS. One thing that really makes me think this is THE LINK is that I also found Nancy Benton in the 1850 census dau. of Hezekiah Benton (which is correct per family records). Of most interest was that both Nancy's father and Leonard's father occupations were that of a "miller". If anyone is researching the Green English family and has information on William W. and/or Leonard English, it would be greatly appreciated. It would help make my 72 year old father in laws Christmas! Best wishes to you all, Ginny Walker English MSGenWeb, Lamar, Forrest, & Perry Counties http://www.rootsweb.com/~msperry/

    1. [GAMONROE] A caution regarding Kindred Konnections on the web
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Here is a note sent to me on a local list by Mark Howells (the husband of Cyndi Howells of "Cyndi's List" and a VERY active internet genealogist in his own right) re: Kindred Konnections, an internet-based company that has been sending out spam (unsolicited advertising or junk e-mail) about their genealogical services. Read on, and buyer beware! Mary Kathryn ********************** Hi all - Loathe though I am to encourage KindredKonnections with a monetary reward, it seemed only fair to "put my money where my mouth is" when warning others about KK's unethical business practices and mis-leading advertising. So I joined up for a brief trial of their services. This e-mail describes what I found and documented. To summarize, the information which KK had available in its database DID NOT MATCH the subject line which they sent to me as unsolicited commercial spam. They had plenty of my surname, but not in Wales and certainly not in Penmark as implied by the subject line of their spam. This is "baiting" customers at its most crude. It is tragic that the thousands of volunteer hours put into the surnames web pages are being exploited for the monetary gain of an enterprise selling a service of dubious value. Please feel free to pass this information along to others who may have received KK's spam. =`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`= Since I had received an e-mail from feedback@kindredkonnections.com titled: "DEERE from 1796 to 1900 in Penmark ,Wales." <my research interests lifted by KK directly from the voluntarily-hosted Glamorgan surnames web page of GENUKI>. The advertisement further stated: "DEERE from 1796 to 1900. We show there are 105 DEEREs in the Ancestral Archive Index at http:// "<remainder of URL snipped as they don't deserve additional advertising> it seemed fair that I search KindredKonnections for the DEERE surname located in Penmark, Wales in 1796 in order to see what I got as a result. =`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`= I did a search of their "Ancestral Archive Index" for the surname DEERE occurring in the year 1796. Here's what I got back: 83 instances of DEERE from 1796 - of which: 31 were double counted (same record returned twice) - leaving 52 actual "hits"; Of the 52 hits, 9 were either mis-directed links, completely blank pedigrees, or "files not found" - leaving 43 "hits"; Of the 43 "hits", 30 contained NO location information at all (in other words, no information on the place where a birth, marriage, death occurred) - leaving 13 "hits"; Of these 13 DEEREs which had location information, only ONE WAS EVEN FROM WALES; NONE of the results returned were from Penmark, Wales at all. =`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`=`= If you have been solicited by KindredKonnections, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Chances are excellent that KK does not actually have any information regarding your surnames in the times and places of your interests. If you find this sort of mis-leading advertising based on the unethical commercial exploitation of volunteer resources on the Internet to be worthy of complaint, you may wish to bring KK's activities to the attention of the following organizations: KindredKonnections' e-mail address is - feedback@kindredkonnections.com KK's Internet Service Provider (whose acceptable use policy prohibits spam) is - abuse@inconnect.com The State of Utah's Division of Consumer Protection (KK is a Utah-based company) accepts consumer complaints of mis-leading advertising and unethical business practices at - commerce@br.state.ut.us - Mark ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ markhow@oz.net -- Mary Kathryn Kozy mkozy@attglobal.net My Home Page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~marykozy/ South King Co. 1. [GAMONROE] DAVIS, GRANT and WHITTLE families
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. (NOTE: This is a response to an earlier GenConnect Query regarding an individual's particular surnames) In reply to your March 27, 1999 list of surnames, I can help you with information on all of the Davises and Grants you have listed and some information on the Whittles. I can also give you a contact name and address for the grandson of James Wesley and Bessie Davis Whittle. Minnie and Bessie Davis were sisters, daughters of Abner H. and Mary Merriam (Davis) Davis. After Minnie died, James Wesley Whittle, Minnie's widower, came back to Monroe County to ask Bessie to marry him, which she did. Mary Merriam (Davis) Davis was the daughter of Gideon Mason Davis and Elizabeth Willons (Wellons) Davis (my great, great-grandparents), and the sister of William Booker Davis (my great-grandfather). I have a photo of Gideon and Elizabeth Davis and their ten children which was made around 1900. I am the granddaughter of Woodfin Grady Davis (son of William Booker Davis and Carrie Evans Davis) and Corine Grant Davis. (She was never called Cora -- evidently that was someone else.) All of the other Davises listed are also my relatives. Most of them are buried at Old Salem Methodist Church on Pea Ridge Road in Monroe County, GA. If you will email me your mailing address and/or telephone number, I'll be glad to share more info, including photos and obituaries. Or, if you have the Family Tree Maker program, let me know which version and I can just attach the info to an email. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
