I live in another state, I have found out that an Evelyn Gaddis/Dockery was born in Monroe Co. and moved to Ellijay, Ga., Gilmer Co., when she married. Her brothers are; William Lucallen Gaddis Doc Gaddis Millard <Miller> Gaddis Joe or Joseph Gaddis Ellis Gaddis The brother we think could have been born around the 1860's to the 1880's. We would like to know the names of their parents, and dates, We think it is Jake and Nancy Gaddis. Can you help with any thing? Thanks very much. Peggy Sue O'Shields-Gaddis

Hello: Like Mary Kathryn Kozy (who is so generous with her research), I am also descended from John GARDNER (1778 VA - 1860 GA) and Catherine (PRINGLE) GARDNER (1778 SC - est 1850 GA). My line is through their son Jesse Fredrick GARDNER (1801 SC - 1860 MS). Some researchers show his name as Thomas Frederick Gardner, so "Jesse" might be a nickname. -- Elizabeth Howell Brunner, San Luis Obispo CA -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [GAMONROE] GARDNER, COLE, PRINGLE Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2000 23:42:40 -0800 From: mkozy@attglobal.net Reply-To: mkozy@attglobal.net To: GAMONROE-L@rootsweb.com I am specifically researching John and Caty (PRINGLE) GARDNER, and am descended through their daughter, Susanna, who md. This came off one of my mailing lists.... what a good idea! "The year 2000 is a Census Year. most of the census will be taken by mail, so after you have filled out your census form why not make a copy of it and file with your important papers. Then your family will not have to wait 70 years to learn about you." *There's two theories to arguin' with a woman. Neither one works. I'm looking for a second marriage, if there was one, 1860 or after, for Nancy Ann Phillips, nee Brown, widow of Nathan Phillips. Nathan died 1856 and is buried in family cemetery of , Nancy's father, Reuben Brown. Nancy is not buried there, unless her grave is one of the unmarked. On 1860 Census, Nancy Phillips, age 46, "farmer", $4,500 real estate, $23,000 personal property, is shown living in Johnson's District, as head of household. Her son Reuben Phillips, 22, lives with her, also Edward Phillips, and 8 year old Nathan Westmoreland.. Is anyone working on this line? MJ Bland

Hello! I need to ask a favor. Would someone in Monroe County please find out for me who are the people who now live in the old Dewberry Plantation house and send me their name and address? I am planning on visiting Monroe County in the spring and would like to visit this house as it was my ancestor's home, Thomas Dewberry and Aseneth "Siney' Laws Dewberry. I would like to write these people ahead of time and obtain permission to visit the grounds and basically let them know I am coming there! I will also need directions. I have heard that the graveyard there is way overgrown. Does anyone have a listing who all is buried there? A nice gentleman wrote me sometime back that Siney was the first one to be buried there and her headstone and that of Thomas were the only ones a person could get to. My main goal is to find my great grandmother's grave (Louise Remshart Watkins) and I suspect she is buried there. Thank you in advance for any help anyone is able to give me. Helping a distant cousin in finding information on the following families connected to William King (1824-1860's): King/Goins/Taylor/Tucker/Thornton/Ward 1. William King and Priscilla Ward (his wife) a. John Thomas (b. abt. 1849) & Susan E. King (1) William T. King (b. 1890) (2) Elizabeth D. King (b) b. Mary N. King (b. abt 1850) c. Elizabeth King (b. abt 1854) d. Virginia King (b. abt 1858) e. Eola King (b. abt 1861) In 1900, John Thomas King and his wife, Susan, were living in Unionville, Monroe County, Georgia. His mother, Priscilla, was living with him. Priscilla prepared her will on August 28, 1907 and it was probated in Monroe County on February 5, 1909. She named several children; unfortunately she used married names. These names were: Mrs. G. E. Goins, M. N. Taylor (assumed to be Mary N.), Mrs. M. A. Tucker, and Mrs. L. E. Thornton. Any connections? Several siblings of the above moved to Louisiana before 1900 census. Roy Austin
Hi All, I got this from my Virginia listserv and thought others might find it useful. Ruth ROCKEFELLER LIBRARY UNVEILS NEW WEBSITE The John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Library has unveiled a greatly expanded section on the Colonial Williamsburg website (http://www.history.org), offering individuals interested in the Colonial Chesapeake the opportunity to search the library's vast collections. New features include PATRIOT, the Rockefeller Library's online catalog listing the 68,000 titles in the Library, and guides to manuscript, microfilm, selected photograph and other research collections, such as the Shirley Plantation Collection of over 18,000 manuscript items. Previously, individuals had to physically visit the library or be connected to an internal network to access these resources. "We have electronically opened the doors to our major collections by adding finding aids and the Library catalog to the World Wide Web," says Public Services Librarian Juleigh Clark. "Now, when researchers come to the Library, they will have a better idea of what we own, and we can serve them more efficiently." Other features on the website include a virtual exhibit of some of the treasures from the Rockefeller Library's rare book and manuscript collections and special indexes to articles in The Colonial Williamsburg Journal and The Colonial Williamsburg Interpreter. Of special interest is an index to the several hundred research reports written at Colonial Williamsburg over the last sixty years. Early American History Research Reports are distinguished for the significant amount of primary source material in them and for their time and place specificity: eighteenth-century Virginia. The John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Library is a research library specializing in the history and culture of the colonial Chesapeake. It is located near the Historic Area at 313 First Street and is open to the public. Library hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact: Juleigh Muirhead Clark Public Services Librarian John D.
